Pre-Baby Last Hurrah Trip --- Suggestions?
My husband and I are planning a trip somewhere in the Carribean the week of November 7th. It is our last trip before our baby is born in February. I'll be 27 weeks pregnant at the time of our trip. We are looking for a place where we can really relax, get some spa treatments and just chill. Looking for something that has lots of conveniences, as I am sure I will be pretty big by then. Am considering St Kitts and Nevis, but don't know much about. Will consider all ideas. Trying to use my Marriott rewards points and they have places in St Thomas, St Kitts, Dominican Republic and Grand Cayman. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

The only place I speak to of your choices is St. Thomas. The Marriott there is very nice. St. Thomas also has a pretty substantial hospital less than 10 minutes from your hotel. You can also take fabulous day trips to other islands like St. John.

I think Grand Cayman would be a prefect choice. Great beaches (and snorkeling if you are so inclined), very upscale island and I would feel safe using their medical facilities if need be), all the conveniences of home, nice spas and great restaurants. Marriott's beach may be a little narrow but i think it will be fine. It is in a great location.

Not trying to scare you but just a note of caution. If receiving a massage check credentials for someone certified in pregancy massage. Improper technique or limited training could possibly cause problems for you and your baby.

How about the Marriott property in Curacao? It was one of the nicest Marriotts and the service was great. It's close to the downtown shopping area so if you feel up to it you can take one of the free Marriott shuttles into town. Plus the food in Curacao was very good. I was there in November 2003 and the weather was great.
Good luck deciding! Nancy |
St. Kitts Marriott is a great property and has the most wonderful Spa, 3 pools and and wonderful beach right outside your room. Plus I know November is slow in the Caribbean so you should be able to get a nice room with your Marriott points. You should check out their site on Marriott.com. Good luck,

Go to St. Kitts. You can explore several other islands from there if you so choose. Bequia, The Tobago Cays, Mustique, etc...

So funny we are doing exact same thing the week after Thanksgiving, but doing a Small yacht cruise (100 passengers). Also very interested in the various opinions of the islands as we are debating between cruising in the Virgins + Saba + St. Bart's + Anguilla or else being in the southern carribean, i.e. Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Vincent, Bequia, St. Martin.....

Really? You are going on a cruise at seven months pregnant? Wouldn't you rather be on terra firma? I guess you haven't had any trouble with hormonal nauseau! (Where is that green non-smiley face? ! )

Well, since you asked......I cannot sustain a pregnancy (have lost 6 pg so far) so we did IVF and used my egg and my husband's sperm to make embryos and placed them in a close friend's uterus. She is carrying our baby since I cannot....
Thus I can go on a cruise "7 month's pregnant!" Hope this clears up any confusion! |
LauraD,
After all of your heartache, best wishes to you and DH for the future. Dreamer is obviously better at 'reading between the lines' than me. I was finding her post a little bit confusing! I probably should go to bed :-) |
Ah, LauraD, that explains! Well, congratulations! This is a much loved bebe!
As for your islands... I'd be tempted to choose whichever included St. Barts! It's been on my wish list for years, although I've never been. Although - the southern route sounds more exotic. Perhaps since you are staying on the yacht, it's a good opportunity to visit some of those. Which islands have you been to and liked/disliked so far? Enjoy the anticipation of the big event. And Best Wishes for much happiness. |
