Potcake Dogs
I am a big dog lover. How much of a problem is this? I know it will break my heart if I see alot of homeless dogs.Wish I could adopt one but my dog at home would not be happy.

T&C?
Dogs do roam the island and when we visited in 2006 we saw quite a few dogs in packs, but I didn't take that to mean that they are all homeless. I'm assuming you are worried that you will see very thin dogs with all their ribs showing, we saw some thinnish dogs but nothing as scary as you can watch on any television channel here in the US - I'm thinking Animal Precinct and programs of that ilk. In 2000 there was a dog in Cesme in Turkey that had an injured leg that I still have regrets about :-( but he was being fed and given water by the local shopkeepers so that gives me hope. |
Yes Iam refering to T&C. I read about these dogs on a few different T&C links. The animal show is not my frame of reference.
|
So, what is your frame of reference?
I read the forums before I visited T&C but didn't focus too much on the dogs although I was aware of the issue. We stayed at Coral Gardens and there was a dog that would walk up and down the stretch between there and Beaches - there was no way that he was homeless (I suppose he could have been big boned :-) ) but he knew where to garner sympathy. |
Instead of just worrying, you can take an active role with the potcake rescue program while on vacation. They are often in need of supplies you can take and donate. Volunteers can spend time and play or walk the potckes they are trying to place in homes. In other words, rather view it as a negative, view the vacation as a way to make a positviie impact. If you search potakes in T & C,you can find the web site. I did and when I go to Provo this summer, I plan on lending a helping hand, either in time or donations. I have already contacted the organization to get a wish list on supplies.

check out:
www.potcakeplace.com You won't see them at the beach, unless someone brings puppies. You probably won't see them around most of Grace Bay. If you venture out, you may see some, but for the most part, between PotcakePlace and TCSPCA, they are working hard to control the situation. It's a great idea to donate collars, dog toys, be a carrier (bring one home to adopted parents) or even adopt one! 8-) |
Thanks . I will make a donation for sure. I love dogs.
