Hi,
Thinking of planning a trip in the middle of May to Bermuda. We are in our early 50's.
We've been there 15 years ago and would like to go back. We had stayed at the Sonesta which I believe has been demolished!
We realize that it probably will not be 80 degrees but just sitting at the beach will be o.k.!
Thinking of staying at either the Pompano Beach of The Reefs...
Anyone been to both that can tell me the pros and cons of both?
Is getting meals included worth it?
We went to the Four Way Inn the last time we were there and we loved it....
Any other hotel ideas greatly appreciated!!

Pompano is further out than The Reefs, so you'll be doing a bit more travelling unless you're planning on staying at the property the whole time. As far as meals go, again, neither property is really close to lots of restaurants, so it depends on your plans - if you aren't leaving the property much, then eating at the hotel might be your best option. But if you are going to get out and about every day, then you can plan on eating meals elsewhere. As far as other hotels, what are you looking for? Activities? Atmosphere? Beach?
And don't discount the weather - I have been swimming in May here, and today I'm in shorts and a t-shirt with all the doors and windows open!!

We wouldn't be staying on the property the entire trip, we like to be out and about and see things also. This trip we want to relax and do things at a liesurly pace.
Was wondering how the food compared at both of the hotels, which is better?
It looks like the pompano has better views and the rooms are pratcially on top of the water.. But the beach of the Pompano is small and no walking down the beach.

I've only eaten at The Reefs, so can't compare. The beach there is nice, but also not long enough for a long leisurely stroll. We got married at The Reefs and were perfectly happy with the location, you'll find Pompano is a bit more isolated/private. Also, The Reefs still has construction happening on their condo/fractional ownership section - I mean cranes and lots of concrete - if that affects your decision.

We stayed at Pompano in 07 and signed up for their meal plan. Their dining plan allows you to eat at the Reefs and Cambrige. So we went to dinner one night at the Reefs. I think the food at Pompano and the Reefs is comparable. I think the ambiance/decor is slightly better at the reefs. And their outdoor bar area was wonderful with fantastic views. The service is definately better at Pompano (overall we were impressed with the service at Pompano - very attentive). The Reef beach is longer than the one at Pompano. Although Pompano's beach is quite small, the water is a beautiful turquoise and very shallow at Pompano (which I loved). The water looked a bit rough/choppier at the Reef (we were there in the evening hours). The Pompano is a bit more casual and intimate than the Reef.

We stayed at Pompano over New Year's in a deluxe room. The views are amazing, the room decor is a little motel-ish, the bathrooms were huge and great. The service is really extraordinary, very casual but very personal and attentive. Although you're further out than the Reefs the owner or a staff member will drive you to the bus or ferry whenever you'd like so getting around is very convenient. The main building is a little dark inside, but very comfortable. The beach is small but calm and beautiful.
We used the dine around to go to the Reefs, asked if we could see a room, and the owner's son gave us a tour. The general feel at the Reefs is a little more formal but we were still relaxed and comfortable. The decor is more modern and generally a little spiffier. The basic rooms are quite small with very small bathrooms and no views. The suites are equivalent in size and view to the deluxe rooms at Pompano. It did have a slightly more upscale feel, a larger beach, and dinner was better (the wine list also had far less moderately priced wines).
As for the meal plan, we started with it for part of our stay but ended up adding the other nights and using the dine around to prevent boredom. It turned out for us that the quality of the food in Bermuda wasn't compelling enough to make it worth the extra effort to find a restaurant.
