Please help with an island recommendation for February for hubby and me

Hi everyone,

Hubby and I would like to plan a trip to the Caribbean for February, 2010. We are both in our early 50's.

Islands we have been to are:

Aruba, St. John, Virgin Gorda, Turks and Caicos, (Grand Cayman during a cruise stop).

I would love to try Anguilla but I think it is over our budget (no more than $500 per night) and a hassle to get to from Boston.

Nevis looks very expensive.

We were on Turks and Caicos years ago but I heard it is very developed now. Willing to try it again. What do you think of this island??

We want someplace nice with great beaches, nice restaurants but not too stuffy.

Any suggestions and ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Is Anguilla really a hassle to get to from Boston? It's pretty easy to get to from Hartford, CT, which is our airport of choice. American Airlines has recently changed its schedule between SJU and AXA, so most east coast folks can make easy same-day connections. If it appeals to you, it shouldn't be too hard to find something under $500/night.

Look for flights to St Martin (SXM); the ferry is a 20 minute ride to Anguilla. Also look at Shoal Bay Villas, Ku, Carimar and Turtles Nest -- all right on the beach and probably in your price range even in high season.

I'm not sure why you say Nevis looks expensive. There are plenty of places that offer accomodations for under $500/night. Check out Nisbet Plantation, Oualie Beach Resort, The Hermitage Inn, Golden Rock Inn, Mount Nevis Hotel, to name a few.

FYI - we think overall Anguilla is more expensive than Nevis.

There are resorts in Turks & Caicos that you can find for under $500 a night....and US Airways offers non-stop service from Boston to Providenciales. I can't think of a better place to go for the BEST beach and great restaurants!

Nevis is a tiny lush Caribbean island that is worth checking out. There are places that are not expensive on the island.
