Please Help!! Booked the Wyndham, now seeing bad reviews, was this a mistake????

My husband and I are going to Aruba in November for 8 nights. We were in a toss up between Radisson and Wyndham. Our travel agent was really pushing the Wyndham, although she's never been there. She said they remodeled the hotel last year, and it was cheapest so we went with it. We did purchase the insurance incase we need to make any changes to our vacation. Now I am reading terrible reviews of the Wyndham, of moldy rooms (my husband is very allergic)not very nice, and that it is adjacent to a public beach making it's beach area very crowd. Several reviews people said they would never go back. Since we are staying 8 nights, I don't want to be in a dump. If you have stayed there, or just have any info. feedback is appreciated. Thank you

Never stayed at either - when on Aruba we always stay at Bucuti (would never stay anywhere else). However, all the reviews I've read indicate that people are generally much more satisfied with the Radisson, although I've read some positive reviews about the Wyndham as well. Just not so many... probably your travel agent had reasons of her own for pushing the Wyndham. For more information check the Aruba Bulletin Board or Aruba trip reports. Or wait for a response from someone who has actually stayed at either of these hotels. Good luck!

Hi Winnie,

I stayed at the Wyndham last August. Consider yourself lucky that you didn't make the mistake that I did and stay at the Tamarijn first. The Tam was full of mold, the beach was horrible, the rooms were small, and the bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a decade. I had my travel agent call the Tam and check me out of that hotel and move me to the Wyndham. The Wyndham was a palace compared with the Tam. The beach was nice as well as the pool. The staff was very friendly. I actually won at Roulette in the casino. The Italian restaurant was Very Good. The only bad thing that I encountered were, the winds were strong and I got sand in my eye that wouldn't come out and I had to go to the Aruban Hospital - Nice Doc but very very dirty hospital. The Beach was never crowded and the rooms were very very clean!!! Hope this helps.

I stayed at the Wyndham Aruba in Sept 2000. I found it to be comfortable and decent. The beds are very comfortable with down comforters and featherbeds. The room is clean but the balcony was pretty dirty. I think you will be fine at the Wyndham.

The Radisson is probably the best place to stay on Aruba, so if the cost is comparable, I'd choose the Rad.

Wyndham has lots of kids and it is adjacent to the public beach and the day we walked by, they were holding swimming lessons for about 50 local kids so it was a zoo.

I agree thought that if you can change, stay at the Radisson.

The Wyndham has a much busier, family-type atmosphere than the Radisson, which is more elegant & much prettier. At 8 AM at the Wyndham I saw a long line of unhappy-looking people standing and waiting for the attendant to come on duty so they could get their beach towels. If that type of thing doesn't bother you, you'll be fine there.

I haven't stayed at the Wyndham but my husband and i stayed at the Raddison last April. It was really great and will definitely stay there again! We got a great deal on Expedia, which the hotel itself would not or could not match. I think the rooms were $135.00 a night with the 5th nite free. Good luck!

We stayed at the Radisson two years ago and decided to extend our stay in Aruba. Thought we might switch to the Wyndham after our one week package at the Radisson ended, because of the fabulous views from the high floors at the Wyndham. We rode the elevator to the top floor and, when we got out, were overpowered by the moldy smell in the hallway. Can't imagine how anyone could stand it for more than a minute. We had to leave immediately. I had not read until now that the hotel has been remodeled (which the public areas definitely needed), so this may have solved the mold problem. But I would definitely find out from someone who is allergic who has been there since.

I will be staying at the Wyndham this January for the 4th time. I saved around 1000.00 for 2 compared to a stay at the Radisson. I have never experienced moldy/smelly rooms at the Wyndham, I have found it to be a really nice hotel with great staff. The beach is great, & the pool is nice, too. Have a great trip!

If you can change STAY AT THE RADISSON!!!! It is a beautiful property. One of the best places to stay in Aruba. It is definitely worth the money. The location is better than the Wyndham also. There is no comparison. If you want to spend less, consider the Occidental which is next door to the Radisson. It is a very nice property and far better than the Wyndham

This is a little off topic, but I would never listen to a travel agent who has not seen a property. Get another agent. There are plenty of them that travel a lot and you can always find one that has been to the property or properties that you are considering. My favorite travel agent (who is unfortunately retiring) had either stayed at or toured tons of properties and if she had not, someone in her office had and I spoke to them. If she couldn't find an agent that was familiar with a property, she would find another client that was and hooked me up to talk to them.

We have stayed at both hotels within the last 2 years. I would only stay at the Wyndham if we were budgeting. The Radisson by far would be our first choice. The pools are sensational and the grounds are lush at the Radisson. The rooms are very nicely decorated in pale lemon yellow and pale green with new decor.
We had a suite at the Wyndham and it was very spacious but the decor was not as nice.
Staff at the hotels were both very pleasant and efficient although the front desk personnel could use some improvement.
The Radisson is near the middle of the strip while the Wyndham is located at the end.
If cost is a consideration then the Wyndham is a fine choice but if not please consider the Radisson.

We've been to the Radisson 3 times and the Wyndham 2 times. I cannot add anything more to what Maureen says. She hits it right on the nose. We have our trip reports posted (sorry never got to one for this past summer- but everything was fine at the Wyndham!) at http://www.arubabound.com/trip_reports/tripreports.htm also if a picture tells a thousand words...http://www.arubabound.com/photosmain.htm
