Please answer St Lucia ?s

hello,

okay, I am leaving one week from today to
st lucia's Hyatt... I have a few questions...

1. Do you feel the Hyatt is very remote?
if no, what is nearby? if yes are taxis a lot of $$, are there more inexpensive ways to get to places,

2. we want to visit the S. end of the Island for a day.. is this enough time? we want to see the rainforsest and volcanoes, what is the best way to do this from the N side of the island...

most people on this board stay at the south end of the island, are the roads different there, are the north roads just as bad? I would like to rent a car to explore on our own (like we did in aruba but Im not sure if this is worth it) thanks for your opinions...

Dear Laura:

WE stayed at the Hyatt for part of our noneymoon last summer and di dnot feel it was isolated. It is on the causeway over to Pegion Island and is off by itself but you can easily walk to Pigeon Island (sp) to tour it and there is a neat restaurant there. We took a taxi into town for diiner one night I think it took us 10 minl and sot about $10.

We also stayed in the south end of the island. I would recommend taking a water taxi down to the south to see that area of the island as it is NOT to be missed. Water taxi only takes about 45 min. as opposed to 1 1/2 hours by taxi. It is expensive but worth it.

Another great way to see the south end of the island is to take a day cruise on the tall ship "Brig Unicorn" to the south end of the isalnd. We did the sunset cruise and just loved it. The day sail includes lunch and tours to teh volcano, waterfall etc. You might want to check into that as well.

We did rent a jeep from Cool Breezes for most of the week we were there and had a blast driving everywhere but the roads are twisty cruvy with no pull offs and blind curves so it is up to you if you feel like you will feel comfortable driving there.

Laura,

To visit the South end of the island, I HIGHLY recommend the Brig Unicorn tall ship. They have an all day cruise that leaves from Castries to the south end. I believe it docks in Soufriere. They take you to the volcano, botanical gardens and the rainforest. Food and drinks are included in the price. They also have a steel drum band as well. It also stops and allows you to go swimming. Do a search on this site for the Brig Unicorn and you'll see how popular it is.

Secondly, the North end roads are not as hilly and curvy as the South roads.

Alex

Hi!
we went to St.Lucia last summer, and stayed even further north than you, but still managed to see the South of the Island, in two ways - we hired a jeep, my husband found the driving not too bad and it meant we got to go snorkelling at the beach at Anse Chastenet, it was amazing. We took ourselves to the Botanic Gardens, whihc were tiny but beautiful, and we took a catamaran tour called 'Tout Bagay' (a little bit of everything) to see the volcanoes and Soufriere, etc. The Hyatt looked like such a great place to stay - very handy for pIgeon island whihc is lovely. Have a great time.

We just got back from a week at Jalousie Hilton. We ventured up to the north end once by renting a local tour guide for the day. It was $150, and we were with him from 1-8 pm. We visited the Hyatt- it's nearby Rodney Bay and not remote. It's a beautiful hotel; the only one I would have considered staying at aside from the Hilton. You can see the volcanoe and botanical gardens and maybe one other tour in one day to the south end. You may want to go for one day by land taxi, and return another evening by water taxi for dinner. We didn't do the sail cruise of brig. unicorn, but I'm sure it's fabulous because we really enjoyed the water taxi up to Marigot Bay.

Have a great time!
