Place to stay in BVI
I want to go to the BVI in April/ May but I am so confused as to where to stay. I am thinking Tortola for the value, but there are so many choices. I am looking for a kitchen and beach, but other than that I do not need much. My boyfriend and I are going and we also need to know how to get there from St. Thomas.
Any info. is appreciated.

There are several ferrys daily between St. Thomas and Tortola and the ferrys between the other islands (Virgin Gorda, Jost) run only on certain days. You also have to see what time the plane arrives to see which ferry you can connect with. You can also fly into San Juan and connect there with flights into EIS (Beef Island) on Tortola which is my preference or even take a puddle jumper to Virgin Gorda. My preference is to the more secluded places as they have the better beaches rather than Tortola but you might enjoy the jeeping and traveling about on and from Tortola since there are ferrys from there to the other BVI's.

Hi, we always enjoy staying at Fort Recovery. Nice and laid back!! Pamelah and Anita take good care of their guests. You can take the ferry from STT. WE always stay on STJ before or after Tortola, it breaks up the trip since you will have to go thru Cruz Bay anyway. Have a great trip, excellent time to go, less crowed and expensive. If you want to keep costs down and want a kitchen here are two sites for you to consider. http://www.frenchmans and http://www.cooper-island.com.

We stayed at Cane Garden Bay Cottages, right across the street from a wonderful beach (Cane Garden Bay). The cottages are duplexes with kitchens, very nicely furnished, on lovely little lots. There were reasonably priced and I would stay there again in a minute.
You can see accurate pictures at

or if that link doesn't work, start at

and follow the links to Tortola.

You've been given some good recommendations already. To add to them, the ferry runs from the wharfs right in downtown Charlotte Amalie. Except on Sunday they run about every other hour. There are several companies each with variations on the same schedule. Based on the resort you select in the BVI you'll want either the ferry to West End (most probably) or the ferry to Road Town. For Frenchman's, Cane Garden Bay, Ft. Recovery, it would be the West End ferry, but note that the ferries that stop at West End then go on to Road Town so it's not a big deal. You can do it with just a drivers license but if you haven't a passport and have time to get one, do so. It is preferred.
Frenchman's is my first choice as you get super accomodations, view, and a full kitchen and separate dining room, plus a beautiful porch and wonderful view. From Frenchman's you can scoot over to Soper's Hole nearby, and stock up on very good food from the Ample Hamper run by some Canadians there. The breakfasts at Frenchman's as well as all meals in your package are unrestricted as to choice.
I'm not aware that Ft. Recovery has kitchens. It didn't last time I was there about 5 years ago. You might query Lee A/T on that (oops! no address).
Go to bviwelcome.com for the web sites of most BVI resorts. I think the ones around Cane Garden Bay which tend to be locally owned will offer some at very low cost with kitchens.

Frenchman's is great but the beach is very rocky! - once you get but the rocks at shore it is enjoyable. The pluses at Frenchman's is the villas, proximity to Soper's Hole and the ferry. I also think they have the bast cheeseburgers in the BVI!
The last time I was in Tortola I stayed at Sabastian's. It has a great beach, nice restaurant and is walking distance to Long Bay. (Bomba's Shack is also next door - FUN!!) Have a great time!
