Place to stay close to town
Has anyone stayed at the Holiday Inn in St. Thomas? Or can anyone recommend a good place to stay that is close to town (we may not rent a car). Thanks!

We have scrapped the Holiday Inn idea. Doesn't anyone have a good suggestion for a place to stay in St. Thomas that is near the beach and the town? Thanks!

By "town" I am assuming you are referring to Charlotte Amalie. There are no beaches there, or even very close by. The Marriott is at Morningstar beach, maybe 1.5 or 2 miles away. I would suggest the Inn at Blackbeard's Castle. Much more atmospheric than the Holiday Inn (basically a box). The Inn is on one of the hills just above the town, a short walk to the center of things. They have a nice pool complex. By taxi, Magens Bay, one of the nicest beaches, is only about 10 - 15 minutes away.

I'm curious, shelbel, why you particularly want to stay "close to town" as nothing is too far away from town if you want to take in some shopping or some of the downtown historical sites.
If you don't want to rent a car, there are always plenty of taxis available or shuttle safari buses, while there are some great places to stay outside the main town area but still within relatively easy reach.
I'd think you'd have a far better time staying outside town and savoring the "real" Caribbean with all that's offered and make a couple of day trips into town for whatever you want to do there!
Check out www.usvi-on-line.com for loads of information on accomodation and other information.
Whatever you decide, have a great trip!
