Peter Island Recommendations
We will be staying at Peter Island Resort for our first time over the Christmas/New Year's Holiday season.
Has anyone been there during the high season Holiday time and how did you find the service, weather, etc. Was there anything planned for even an informal New Year's Eve party? Also, we'll be staying in the Oceanview/Gardenview rooms as the Beach Front Rooms are already booked nearly 10 months in advance. Would you suggest that we try to request an upper level Oceanview room, or the seemingly larger Gardenview rooms? Any room numbers in particular? I know they can't guarantee requests, but it can't hurt to ask. We'll be arriving in the early evening (but it will be dark) at EIS on Tortola. Has anyone else arrived around that time and how did you find the wait/service to ferry to Peter Island? Any other suggestions in general. Things you wish you had thought of in advance? |
Hello there. My husband and I vacationed at Peter Island last October and we stayed in an oceanview room. The room itself was on the upper level, which I think is better then the bottom level because you have better views of the ocean. We were there during low season so I really can't comment about high season. I would definitely recommend doing the "loop" which is a drive to a point on the island where you watch the sunset. Beautiful views but be sure to wear a lot of BUG SPRAY. I don't know if it was the time of year or not but we did get bitten a lot (myself more so then my husband). We were able to tour their new spa which wasn't opening for another week but if we did return we would have liked to try a spa treatment, the location was spectacular. Be prepared to eat a lot, the food is excellent along with the service. You will have a wonderful time on Peter Island. I'm jealous! - Susan

We stayed in an upper level oceanview and I think I'd still prefer it over a slightly larger gardenview as it felt more private. Can't answer your other questions as we traveled during low season and arrived via ferry from STT during the day.

We've arrived on the last flight to EIS and had no problem getting to Peter Island. Someone will meet you at the airport and arrange a short taxi ride to the Beef Island dock for a 30 minute motor yacht ride to the island OR a longer taxi ride to RoadTown for a shorter Peter island ferry ride to the resort. Either way, we are usually checked into our room just a little more than an hour after we touched down at the airport.
Have fun! |
Did you ask to be put on a wait list for the beachfront rooms? We were able to get one at the last minute...
I'm curious to see what they do for New Year's Eve......we had a great time in January but there was NO night life at all. Have fun...it's a special place. |
Thanks everyone for the replies! As I'm posting this well in advance of the Holiday/New Year's Season, I hope others will feel free to tag on their replies as well.
SSypniewski and Patty: Thanks for the recommendation on the Upper level units. I will certainly request those, and hope that one will be available. Also thanks for the reminder of the bug spray! Scubamom: Thanks for the reassurance. I hate to think that we'll be stranded on Tortola for several hours waiting to ferry over to PI. So you've certainly calmed my fears about arriving after dusk. Skitravel: I didn't ask to be put on a waiting list and it wasn't offered probably because they know of their steep cancellation penalty during the holiday season so most people probably don't cancel. But I will certainly check back with them as it's definitely worth asking about. So glad we already booked our airfare, as it's already doubled per person. Of course, with my luck, there will probably be a huge fare sale right before we need to leave. But I figure, better safe than sorry. |
There was a big can of bug spray in our closet...so unless you're particular about the brand....it may be one less thing to pack.
As usual, my husband was bothered by a few "no-see-um" type bugs at dusk and I wasn't affected at all. I posted a trip report last month if you haven't seen it.....don't miss the spa... Have fun anticipating your trip.....it's part of the fun !! |
