passport waiting time

Sons in Colorado have applied for their first passports about 5 weeks ago and have not recieved them yet. Getting nervous as we all are going sailing in Leewards on May 6. Any ideas if they don't come in a timely fashion?

Check out this website

Looks like it's changed since I applied. Looks like way more customer service. When I applied, my husband's came and mine didnt. I had to call and give credit card number over the phone and got a recording.

Good luck. Greenie =)

I'm assuming that your sons went to a local office to apply for their first passports. As I understand it, you must present all your info in person for a first passport. I can't imagine what the hold up might be. My husband and I very recently applied for passports at our local Municipal Center and we received them in a week and a half. Maybe try contacting the local office where the documents were filed to make sure they completed the task.

As for your question...Does the place you are traveling allow you to show state issued birth certificates and a photo ID in lieu of passports. I'd suggest contacting your ship's cruise line with that question.

We have flown (not cruised) to the Bahamas 4 times, and to Turks & Caicos twice, and went thru Customs showing our birth certificates and drivers licenses. The birth certificates must be the actual state issued with a raised seal, not copies.

I hope the documents show up soon.

My husband and I sent in our renewals together..I got mine two weeks ago... his just came yesterday.. There is a number you can call... we called early in the a.m. and by coincidence it was in the mail within the day.. If you call they will tell you if they have been sent out.. and when.

Read this thread with interest in that we applied for passports on 4/2.

Since we (wife & I) we're not in any particular hurry, caribtraveler's report of it taking 5 weeks to receive passports after submitting applications was not an issue for us.

Lo and behold, our passports arrived yesterday, less than three weeks after submitting our applications.

We DID NOT pay for expedited service, merely submitted our applications at the Bronxville, NY Post Office since it was much more convenient than the closest passport office.

We had to write seperate $30 checks to cover the PO's service charge for receiving/checking each application, but in terms of the time that was saved (not to mention parking fees), it was well worth it.
