Passport questions

Let me be dumb for a second. Do I need a passport to go to St. Thomas from the U.S. if I am an American citizen?

Anyone want to help out?

You do not need a passport for St. Thomas.

St. Thomas is part of the US Virgin Islands so it is part of the US. People there are considered US citizens.

For most of the Carribean all you need is a birth certificate and photo ids.

To get on the plane, I would recommend having a couple of photo ids, just in case. They are pretty through now with checking. Drivers License/work id.

Have a great time.

No, you're not dumb. Although you don't need a passport, many folks find that things go a lot faster (i.e., getting through customs lines) if you do have one. (I have fonud this to be true.)
