Passport question Carribean/Bahamas/Cruise
I know that passports were going to be required to the carribean as of the end of '05. Is this still the case? If so, does this also apply to the Bahamas? My mom was looking at taking a cruise, but has no passport so this may not work. Thanks!

Check this site and tell her to apply for passport. It isn't very complicated process |
I never understand why some people seem reluctant to get a Passport. The process is fairly easy, they are good for 10 years making the cost around $10 per year and they make getting through Immigration when entering and leaving foreign countris and returning to the US so much easier. With a Passport you always know that you will have the proper documentation for international travel. Another plus is all those seasoned travellers with Passports who are behind you (or in this case your mom) in the Immigration line will be thankful she isn't holding up the works while they try to determine if she has the proper documention.

The reasoning is that she wants to take a last minute cruise, and will not have time for even an expedited passport. I personally have mine, but she has never been out of the country and hasn't had a need for it.

As you see she has two choices, one is to get a passport and go on a cruise, the second is to not apply and do not go on a cruise.

The state dept. website states that the new passport requirement for the Caribbean that was to go into effect at the end of '05 has been pushed back to the end of '06.
