Parrot Heads- head's up!
If you're going to Anguilla in March, hit Bankie Banx's Dune Preserve on March 24th. Jimmy Buffett is putting on a special show and all the proceeds will go to Anguilla charities. He hosts even greater concerts at lower latitudes.
Thanks for the heads up - my college son is a ParrotHead and would have loved to have gone. However, we are taking him to Grand Cayman, leaving on that date. (His first trip to GC).
How can I find out about other Buffet concerts on other islands? PS. Are you familiar with the big Parrot Head festival in Key West in the late fall and the Virtual Parrot Head website? |
I'm familiar with the Parrot Head website, but didn't know about the Key West gala. Thanks for the update! Robert59

Just hang around St Barts. He bowls up in his plane, and jumps up on stage at apparent random at various locations.
Difficult to plan for though. |
LySun; I don't know of any other Caribbean island tours. He'll be in Illinois, Texas and Wisconsin in the coming months.
Waring; I heard that he unnanounced hits a particular island and rolls up to the beach...so, it's St. Barts, huh. I hope he doesn't make a new song called, "St. Barts Mystaica". Back in 1996, his plane, the "Hemisphere Dancer" was shot at by the Jamaican police. They thought it was a drug smuggling plane coming in. U2's Bono was aboard the plane, too. Save bullet holes in the fuselage, noyone was injured. Maybe that's why he goes to St. Barts, now? Robert59 |
Forgot to add, that's how his one song, "Jamaica Mystaica" was written. St. Barts, Onward! should be made into a song, too. Robert59
Have never been to St. Barts but I could handle just hanging around on it for months, even if Buffet does not show up.
By the way - Son is also into Bob Marley (weird son - ranges from being a ParrotHead to liking bluegrass and everything in between). Do you know anything about the Bob Marley Freedom Resort in Nassau, Bahamas. |
LvSun,
Nothing weird about that combo at all!! My wife & I always bring our two favorite CD's with us to the islands, one is Jimmy Buffet, and the other is Bob Marley. Both just seem to really fit the island vibe. Funny about Buffet playing in Anguilla, as my wife will be there next week, and she just about fainted when she read about missing Jimmy by about 30 days!! She is a true Parrothead, and hasn't missed a New England show in years. It is a dream of ours to catch him at a small place in the islands..... |
ScottB; AHHHH! My sympathies for your wife. Oh, well, maybe she can experience some of the pre-Jimmy Buffet parties. I hear the islands start popping before he arrives. Robert59
Ugh!!! I just finalized our trip to Jamaica over the Buffett in Anguilla time period and actually considered Anguilla......I can't believe we could have actually seen Buffett in the carribean.. Where do you check for this great info?? I hope some Parrottheads get to enjoy...I'll just have to settle for a margarita and Buffett music in Jamaica...I guess it could be worse!!!
beachbum: the best and latest up to date info on ALL of Jimmy Buffett's tour dates can be found at www.buffettnews.com. There is more than enough info there for any true Parrothead (like myself). Great discussion board, as well. I've only seen 4 shows, though, as he doesn't get up to the Pac NW too often. A show in the islands would be a dream come true! Have a great time in Jamaica....where are you going?
beachbum2-It's on his internet tour schedule. Oh well, you can play "Jamaica Mystaica" whilst you're there. Robert59
Just booked for the March Buffett concert and Cap Juluca - any suggestions on where to hang out?
The Pumphouse, Johnno's, & Sunsets in Sandy Ground have live music. Also Smokey's on Cove Bay (close to Cap) from 12-3 on Saturdays. Live music on Shoal Bay East Sundays afternoons -- don't know about other times. There are fun bands in Anguilla & Anguillians LOVE to dance -- Thursday nights at the Pumphouse, starts hopping at 10:30/11 & it goes on & on & on. Great fun!
Hey CS, do you have the same screen name on BN? I'm Coconuts, but that was taken here.
Coco: No, it was taken. I use "NegrilBound" as my monicker on BN. I mainly lurk on the board but it provides some essential escapism.
He's here on St Barts now. Can see his plane parked up at the airport.
Cheeseburger in Paradise is apparently inspired in part by the Select in "Downtown" Gustavia, he's coming here since the 70's, allegedly being one of the original "pirates". I can say no more. "LE SELECT - St.Barthelemy, French West Indies I sort of watched this burger evolve and actually was the cook the first night the stand opened, flipping burgers for my friend Eddie Staklborough. I overheard some people at the counter waiting for their burgers, and they said, "How sad. You know he used to be famous, but now he's cooking cheeseburgers."" |
We were there in 1999 for the 50th anniversary of Le Select -- Buffet gave a free concert; the entire island showed up. 'Twas AMAZING!
OK TRAVELINGBLONDIE, I'm quite jealous! I will be listening to Jamaica Mysaica at the Caves. Thanks for the tour info too!
Got an e mail from Ticketmaster and he was playing at an arena here. Looked at his website and decided playing on the dunes sounded much more fun! Can't wait!!
Would LOVE to see Jimmy in Anguilla...but I'll just have to hope he returns to Jones Beach on Long Island instead! Seeing him on a beautiful tropical island would be PERFECT!!!!
OK, Parrot Heads. I love his song "Cheeseburger In Paradise". Decades ago, he was sailing through the Caribbean and hit some rough seas. When the storm blew over, he ate yuch food for a week, including canned food and peanut butter/crackers. They finally hit a town on a Caribbean island, which I've been to. He was dreaming of "piping hot cheeseburgers" for a week, and incredibly, this pub/restaurant served cheeseburgers, thus, the song was born. Trivia time. Who can name the town and island it's on?? If you're correct, you will receive admiration from the rest of the posters. Robert59
Anybody know the answer to the trivia above? I'll give the answer tomorrow if nobody knows by then. I'll bet many of the posters have ventured to this island and its capital city. Robert59
The answer is Road Town, Tortola, BVI.
"...we gave particular instructions to the waiter on how we wanted them cooked and what we wanted on them -- to which little attention was paid. It didn't matter. The overdone burgers on the burned, toasted buns tasted like manna from heaven, for they were the realization of my fantasy burgers on the trip." J.B.
Caribbeansoul; You are the winner! I enjoyed the hairpin roads around Tortola. Robert59
I'm staying right at Cane Garden Bay in June :-) I'll be having that Cheeseburger in Paradise up in Road Town! wooo hoooo
Rumor has it that the 'Cheeseburger in Paradise' that JB had was at Stanleys in Cane Garden Bay...
He just took off from St Barts five minutes ago. Can't miss his plane.....
littleSalty; you'll love Cane Garden Bay. Great snorkeling and nice bands in the beachside pubs at night. Hit the BombaShack down the road. Robert59

Son and buddies wanted to go see Jimmy Buffet in Pittsburgh - needed 8 tickets. Yesterday tickets went on sale 10am Monday. Long story so I won't go into every detail... I was ready and tried buying tickets the second they went on sale. Ticket sales system kept searching and searching .... for 21 minutes. Then told me there were no tickets avaiable. Went to another site... ended up getting 1 pavillion seat then searched again and got 1 more pavillion seat. Then they were also sold out. The pavillion seats are about 3 times the price of lawn.
So took about 35 minutes and got 2 tickets -paid a fortune. Got pavillion but son will sit on lawn (more fun). Then typed in Jimmy Buffet Pittsburg on search engine - tons of sites had hundreds of tickets for sale. Of course at greatly inflated prices. No wonder I could not get the tickets - the scalpers got them. I hate ticket scalpers -- hope they can NEVER get tickets to anything they want to attend. |
Here in Pittsburgh it happens every year. The venue is great unless it rains. Be prepared for traffic and then some.
All righteeee!
This parrothead's going to see Mr. Buffett TOnight! The Bama Breeze tour - anybody seen it? And more importantly, has anybody tasted his Margaritville tequila yet? Any good? Should I pass on the Patron for his new stuff? <insert Parrot smiley here!> |
Hi Joan,
Have a GREAT time!!! We saw Bama Breeze twice this summer-in Camden, NJ and Atlantic City, NJ. Almost went to the one tonight too, but couldn’t swing it with work. It’s a great show (as they all are). He does a very cool remix with a Bob Marley song too. Try the Landshark Lager-mmmm...very similar to Corona. And the Margaritaville tequila is great too. Enjoy, and let us know how it went! |
Thanks, kellybeches!
I'm off!!! Now, where did I put that salt... |
I'm jealous, love Jimmy. We saw his show last September in Michigan. It POURED for the entire outdoor show. He and the Coral Reefers played for about 2.5 hours. Very wet but great time had by all. BTW, the Anguilla concert DVD is now available on his website.
Ooh, I found the salt.
And the tequila found me! Show was great. It rained a little when we first arrived, but then the sun and the breezes prevailed. I really like that Ford Ampitheatre. The tailgating is really something to see, isn't it? Who knew you could power a blender with a chain saw?! Jimmy was introduced by none other than our own Governor Charlie Crist. Kelly, you were right, the Bob Marley songs were sweet - Peter Mayer did a nice job on Waiting in Vain, and Redemption Song was lovely too. There is one more show in our town Sat night, Jimmy said it will be the last of the tour - "thanks everyone for a great summer job!" |
just back from the show in Tampa tonight (11/3). excellent venue...great concert. wish he would lay off some of the covers and play some of his originals a bit more. the pre-show tailgate was a party to remember forever! wrapped up the show with tin cup chalice...great finish! fins up!
Hey CS, are you at the folks house in Florida?? Glad you had fun. Tin Cup Chalice, one of my favorite tunes. I wanna go back to the islands..... I will be soon. 19 days til back to STJ.
Hi Brenda! Yes, my son and I are in the midst of an elongated boys weekend at my parent's house. We are off to Anna Maria Island to hit the beach! Beautiful weather we have had! The Gulf Beaches are gorgeous down here. Enjoy your trip to STJ! I am most jealous, of course.
