P.R. Hotels with great beaches??

I'm looking to go to Puerto Rico and stay in the San Juan area for Memorial Day weekend. Anyone have any recommendations for hotels? I'm looking for a hotel with a beautiful beach since all we plan on doing is relaxing on the beach. Thanks in advance for any info!

Dorado Hyatt has a very nice beach. 30-40 min from San Juan.

I wouldn't call any of the beaches in the San Juan area "beautiful" but there are some nice beaches in the area fronting the hotels in the Isla Verde area. Two are the Wyndham El San Juan and the Ritz-Carlton.

You might want to head to Vieques or Culebra, just off the coast of PR for some nice beaches. Check out www.enchanted-isle.com

I stayed at the Wyndham El San Juan last Memorial Day. It was a great hotel: pools, lobby, casino, rooms, etc. were all really top-notch--if a little crowded, due to the holiday weekend. I enjoyed the beach, too. Before I went, many people had told me that it wouldn't be "great," so I had low expectations, but was pleasantly surprised.

We just returned from the Intercontinental San Juan, right on Isle Verde beach and loved it! I'll be posting a separate, uh, post with details. Word around the resort is that Intercontinental's rooms were a lot nicer than El San Juan's.

Have stayed at The Hyatt Dorado and Westin Rio Mar. Both have some of the nicest beaches on the island, but you will need a car to get around if you want to get out and see other sights as they are both about 45 minutes out of the city. Isla Verde hotels also have nice beaches, but not as nice, in my opinion, as if you get outside the city.

Everyone, thank you for your input. I should have worded my original post better. I don't necessarily want to stay in San Juan. I'm just flying into the San Juan airport so I want to find a resort with a nice beach roughly within an hour drive of the airport. I just don't want to go to the other side of the island.

The Isla Verde beaches are close to the airport.

Viequesa and Culebra are both short flights from San Juan (approx 20 mins) or you can take a cab to Fajardo ( about 1 to 1/12 hours from San Juan and catch the ferry. The beaches there look awesome on the websites.
