overnighter in san juan
 

on our way to dominica we have to lay over in san juan one night each way. can anyone here recommend a decent hotel close to airport? this is in february. also any comments on dominica -diving or sights will be appreciated. thanks. <BR>

We recently stayed at the Wyndham El San Juan Hotel & Casino. You can get to it on the internet. It was a beautiful hotel with a wonderful beach and 2 lovely swimming pools. Very pricey. Hope this helps.

Look at the San Juan Grand. Newly remodeled and so close to the El San Juan you can enjoy their atmosphere but not their prices.

If you are getting in late about 9-10pm and leaving around 8am the next day, there is the International Airport Hotel right in the airport (787-791-1700). Rooms will run around $80 and there are worse places to stay. The rooms are basic. If price is not a problem, grab a cab and there are lots of places within 5 miles.

I travel often to and through San Juan and opt to stay at the El Convento (web site: http://www.elconvento.com/)for a bit of urbane Old San Juan flavour, especially if your final destination is a resort. Why stay at yet another beach? <BR>It's really not much further along by taxi than the city or Condado and at least there is a lot to see on foot nearby. The hotel is expensive but luxurious and the views of the harbor are the best. Try 'Il Perugino', 'Cafe Amadeus' or 'Chef Marisol' for dinner. All are a block or two away on or just off Calle Christo. Visit El Morro, a short walk. Have fun and make it special.

MUST AGREE WITH SELECTION OF EL CONVENTO <BR>HOTEL, ROMANTIC RMS. WITH GOOD VEIWS, <BR>INCLUDING CATHEDRAL ;SMALL,HISTORIC,LUX.SHOPPING DISTRICT AND SHORT WALK TO AIRPORT. CAB FARE IS NOT OVERLY EXPENSIVE, MUCH BETTER THAN AIRPORT AREA FOR DAYS STAY.
