I love those types of overwater bungalows. Unfortunately for me, they are all out of my price range but hopefully some day that will change. I literally have pictures of these on my computer desktop and dream about them every day.

So I just googled for a list of them in the caribbean, and found this site that seems to have a comprehensive list of them.

It's interesting that this old old thread has been topped, so I'll chime in with some developments to keep your eyes on.

As far as I know, there's nothing like this in the Caribbean right now, but 9 Beaches Resort in Bermuda, which is currently closed, is supposed to reopen next year. It had/will have overwater bungalows.

And Sandals is developing overwater rooms at one of its resorts in St. Lucia. These should also open next year. There are also resorts in Belize and Panama that are supposed to have overwater rooms, but I don't know anything about them. So I think 2012 may be the year of the over-water room in the Caribbean.

The new Belize resort that's being discussed appears to be a dead-end project or perhaps a scam. There's also word that a resort in Jamaica is planning overwater bungalows for 2012, which would be fantastic. Hopefully the Caribbean will be the next host of overwater bungalows, at least in the hurricane-free zones.

Coral Lodge in the San Blas Island in Panama has 6 over the water bungalows and it is wonderfully isolated.

I think the resort in Jamaica you're thinking of is Sandals, which is a Jamaica-based company. Though the over-water bungalows they are developing are in St. Lucia. I haven't heard of anything in Jamaica, but I'll look around.

@Roger_Wade are there such a thing as hurricane-free zones in the Caribbean? If so, I think I want to move there.
