Opinions please? St. John & surrounding islands

Hi all,

I will be in St. John for my 4-year wedding anniversary and will be spending it at the Westin for 8 nights. We will be spending the time exploring the island, but we are also interested in taking day trips to surrounding islands. By reading various posts, I've read tidbits about Peter Island, Jost Van Dyke, and other islands and I would like to know more about them. Can anyone lend their expertise and explain more in detail exactly where these islands are located, which islands to visit, ferry or sailing information and what beaches we shouldn't miss? Thanks.

Hi Cicuit,

We spent our hioneymoon at the Caneel on St. John last year and it was grreeat. We are going to the Westin for our one year in August.

We took a day snorkle/beach trip to Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke through Cruz Bay Water Sports. These guys were great and fairly priced and they leave right form the Westin!!! The first stop was snorkling at Congo Island and then off to Virgin Groda for lunch at Foxy's and then overto White Bay for nore snorkling/beach and drinks at the Soggy Dollar Bar. These islands are in the BVI's and are no more than 20-30 minutes by boat. You will need a passport to clear British Custromes and Us Customs (return) but it is easy and without any hassle. The concirege at the Westin will be able to help

I think kmfoley is a little confused. Foxy's and the Soggy Dollar Bar are on Jost Van Dyke, not Virgin Gorda. The trip she's talking about is on the "Blast" and can be booked through Cruz Bay Watersports as she said. You can get the boat either at the Westin or the National Park dock in Cruz Bay.

Been to Westin and Caneel Bay - hands down Caneel! Casual/Carribean elegance. You might also check out Gallows Point if your concerned about $$$ (through Suite St. John) it is located on the water in Cruz Bay. Excellent walking location and still on the water (can hear waves crashing at night, Westin didn't really have this, too big/commercial) Rolando the on-staff concierge was amazing! took us surfing one day on the NE part of the island!

Jost Van Dyke = Soggy Dollar Bar, and Foxy's, and snorkeling on Jost is exceptional!!!!! Think one ferry was $40 RT.
Virgin Gorda = THE BATHS!!! Unusual and really interesting!

SillyGirl: You are right, I did have the islands confused. Thanks for pointing that out for the other people reading the post...it was the Blast from Cruz Bay Watersports
