opinions on new westin dawn beach on st. maarten
 

Has anyone been to the new westin on st. maarten? Is everything up and running? Pros and cons?

I have not been yet but I'm booked for late March. I have read somes posts on the internet that talk about how this property is not ready or finished, yet they are accepting guests already. I hope they complete the hotel by late March! I would be very unhappy to be surrounded by construction during my spring break vacation. I have been to St. Marteen before but stayed on the french side and love the beaches.

Tripadvisor has a number of very negative posts by people who went there in December and they all said that the hotel and the staff were not close to being ready for prime time.

We just came bay from Oyster Bay Beach Resort next door and talked to quiet a few guests from the Westin. They said pretty much the same that's posted here: the hotel and staff are not quite ready for prime time. We drove by and it looked lovely but the other complaint from the guests was the interior was all marble and cold feeling - not a bit of caribbean decor inside. One more thing, at the time we were there the Westin had not yet installed beach umbrellas so you may want to bring your own if needed. Call first.

I have rented a villa right next door to the Westin (don't know if that is good or bad) and will post a comment on it when I get back. We will be there next week.
