One night in Nassau - hotel help

Daughter and I are planning a spring break getaway in Eleutheura. Will be flying into Nassau and doing the puddle jumper the following morning. Same routine coming hom. I'm a bit stunned to see hotel prices for Nassau - that there doesn't seem to be any affordable - or near-airport - option. Lowest rates I'm seeing start in mid-$200s. Any one have experience with this kind of flight schedule or hotel advice? Thanks!

A lot of people recommend Orange Hill for quick overnight stays since it is so close to the airport but has beach access. It could be sold out for the time period you are requesting. For our overnight, we actually stayed on Paradise Island since we had never been before. We stayed at Paradise Harbour Club for about $99 a night plus taxes and fees. The down side is the taxi fare to get there and back but if you can find someone to share the taxi with it might not be as bad. We walked to Atlantis and had dinner and looked around. It's on the marina side. We would stay there again for another overnight but we would try and share a taxi next time.

Thanks for this. Since my original post, we have booked orange hill. Was concerned about comparative low price, but many decent-to-good reviews swayed us. Would appreciate hearing any fodorite impressions of orange hill....

Thought i'd update here. Spent the night at orange hill twice, on the way out and way back from our Eleuthera stay. The first time, sad to say, reflected all the more negative reviews one can find abt OH. Tired, shabby, barely cared for rooms with dingy looking mattresses and thin sheets that made you wonder if they'd been changed. Honest to god, our tub floor had gotten a coat of spackle to repair a major crack. At checkout, i notified them of a toilet seat ready to slide off (interesting experience, that!) and the non-working bathroom outlet (fortunately discovered in the middle if the night or device charging woulda been a no-happen).

I am guessing that that is why, for our return visit, we were 'upgraded' to a larger, brighter, much newer cottage with a view of Cable Beach across the street.

But the initial experience was really really poor -despite the fact that i spoke w a number of guests who 'love' the place and make regular returns.

Plus side---the grounds are quite expansive and pleasant, plenty of places to sit...AND it's a five-minute $20 cab ride from the airport. Just know your bottom-line personal standards before you decide to book.

We stayed at Orange Hill last June and regretted it!! It was the only part of our vacation that wasn't perfect. VERY ran down. Peeling paint, saggy mattress. Spend a few dollars more and start your vacation off right!!!

at your price range most will be run down, and taxi back and forth could be up to $60 each way anyway

Increase your budget and stay at the nice Compass Point Resort

We stayed one night at Melia on Cable beach in Nassau and paid over $400. I think similar to us you may have been travelling during spring break. Melia is ok but I could not wait to check out and board our flight to Cat Island.
