One day in St. Thomas

My husband and I will have one day in St. Thomas and don't want to shop this trip. Any suggestions on what we can do? We've heard about a ferry to St. John(where do you get it and does it let you off at a nice beach on St. John or what?) and Magen's Bay has been mentioned(is that still a nice place? If you take a taxi there, how can you get one to take you back?) We'd like some details, please!

Hi There,

A lot will depend on what you want to do. You can spend an entire day walking through downtown CA and viewing all of the historical sites and local points of interest. You can hire a taxi to take you on an island tour if you like.

If you want to beach it, there are numerous opportunities....Magens is still a great place to spend a day. It has chairs you can rent for the day as well as an onsite bar/restaurant. If you take a cab there, you will also be able to find a cab to take you back...they wait in the parking area. In fact, any of the resorts/restaurants you head to will be happy to make sure you get a cab for your return trip. You can head to Coki which has great snorkeling and is right next door to Coral World which you can walk to.

Lots of folks also spend a day at one of the beachfront resorts that have restaurants like Bolongo, Sapphire, Secret Harbour, the Marriott properties.

Or you can head to one of the beaches that are more "off the tourist track" like Hull Bay or Brewers.

Thanks for the info! Do you have any idea approx. how much we should expect to pay for a taxi to Magen's Bay?

Hi Again,

Assuming you are leaving from the cruise ship dock, a taxi should run you about $8 per person to Magen's. Here is a website that gives you taxi rates on STT.

There are taxi's everywhere and also waiting at Magans Bay to take you back to the ship. Our last visit we went to Morningstar Beach as we have been to Magans Bay before. It is also a nice beach. I would go to St. Johns' if I were you.
