One Day in Grenada

Any suggestions for "must do's" for a one day visit? Also, a restaurant for lunch on or near the beach? Thanks

We were there many years ago on cruise ship for one day. They had at the time a tour of a spice factory. It was very interesting. We also spent the rest of the time on a wonderful beach. The people are very friendly. I have always had fond memories of this Island. Enjoy.

I would recommend a guided tour of the island from one of the many excellent companies. On my third trip to Grenada, my husband and I were accompanied by both sets of parents, so we wanted to give them a pocket tour of the island. We had a private tour with Caribbean Horizons (visit www.grenadaexplorer for a listing of various tour operators). Because our tour was on a Sunday, we weren't able to visit any "commercial" sites like the spice or rum factories, but did hit a number of natural highlights. Our tour included stops at Annandale Falls, Grand Etang (a volcanic crater lake), Bathways Beach, and lunch at La Sagesse Nature Center (a beautiful beachfront restaurant and resort). We got in good beach time at both Bathways and La Sagesse. Along the route, our guides explained historical, geological and botanical features of the island. Of course, there is far more to Grenada than what a few-hour tour can reveal, but it's a nice introduction.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I just found out that we only have 6 hours on the island so I think we'll save the guided tour for when we visit in the future. We want to rent a car, check out some of the resorts and possibly visit a spice factory. Are there many spice factories and if so, which one would you suggest?

The closest spice factories are in Gouyave on the West coast or Grenville on the East - probably the most convenient if you want to check out resorts as well. Neither are really close to St. George's - I assume you are coming in on a cruise? - and considering the driving conditions and lack of road signs, I would not recommend renting a car for the limited time you are there. Most taxi drivers are very accommodating, and if you tell one what you want, you will be well taken care of.

To RAB: Yes, Grenada is a port stop on the cruise. Do you know which spice factory is closest to the port? Are the roads very treacherous? How bad are they? Thanks
