We were at OCW in December.
Construction on the west side was well underway but I doubt they're finished yet. Construction on the east side was just starting. There was a sign for a new building planned on the south side; not started. Fortunately they can't build to the north - that's the ocean.

And when they start tearing down the Allegro and building condos, that will be more construction just west of OCW.

Despite all that, we loved OCW and heard almost no construction noise while there.

The original Ocean Club would be a better bet in this regard, at least until someone buys the Club Med property and starts putting up more expensive condos there. Only a matter of time, I suspect.

In our case, the room type and price we had included a screened balcony at OCW and would not have at OC, so be careful of the details.

We stayed at OCW last June and yes there was construction in progress next door. Unless you were walking right by the activity there was little to no noise or interference.
I would choose OCW over OC because I think the pool and the grounds are a bit more attractive.
This June we are trying The Sands.

We were at OCW in Feb. The was construction on both sides, but it was never an ongoing annoyance. Yes, you could hear it on the beach, but it would be for a short time, and then quiet again. Sometimes when the waves were up a bit, they were noisier than the construction. As noted in the previous email, the least expensive romm category at OCW has a very large screened in terrace/patio, but at Ocean Club, it is just a small terrace. I don't know what the rooms looked like at the OC, but we all felt that the grounds and bldgs. at the OCW seemed newer and everything looked fresh. But the Gecko Grill at OC sure is good!

Just came back this saturday from OCW. Yes there is construction going on and alot of it. As someone mentioned before construction is on both sides and begins promptly at 7am, have o be the best workers on the island! It goes on til around 5pm and can be heard on the beach in, the room and somewhat by the pool (the buildings and trees block it out a little more here) and probabbly wont be finished for a while. With that being said, while being a little annoying we still had a fantastic time there and the grounds blow OC away. Even with the noise I would have been dissapointed staying at OC vs OCW as the grounds and rooms are much more dated at OC and show it. The staff at OCW was very apoligetic about the construction as it is not on their property there is nothing really they can do but if you are interested you may be able to get a discount on your rate. Though I would highly recommend OCW, another option may be the Royal West Indies which is a lovely property and the rooms look even a little nicer than the OCW though no Screened Porch and no real construction nearby. At the current time, I think you would be hard pressed to stay anywhere in TCI w/out seeing/hearing any construction as it seems they are buildng 2 resorts for every 1 that is currently up. We had a wonderfly relaxing time reading and listening to the waves on the beach and had the occasional laugh at all the hammering! I think you will have a great time wherever you stay.

Does anyone know when the construction will be completed? Have a vacation package for either the Ocean Club West and/or Ocean Club in November. Am trying to plan my honeymoon, and don't want to deal with the construction mess. Would you suggest renting a car? I heard that the roads weren't great. If you are at the Ocean Club West do you really need a car? Thanks for your advice

We stayed 10 days at Ocean Club and rented a car for about 3 or 4 days. But I'm sure we coul have gotten by without one. For us the Diners Express would have been expensive to go beyond the Grace Bay area (we're a family of 5), but if it's just 2 it would be very reasonable. We did a Sail Provo Sunset Cruise and they picked us up on the beach, and when we did the J&B beach cruise their shuttle picked us up. Walking along the roads isn't great, but we walked to a couple restaurants on the beach. If you're watching your $, I'd say skip the car.

With or without construction, I would recommend staying at Ocean Club as opposed to Ocean Club West. The original Ocean Club is the last property on the beach so you have a long stretch of beach beyond you that is not used and croweded with people. Even though it is next to Club Med, that has never impacted us and we have been going to Ocean Club for over 10 years. The Ocean Club West is a nice property but busier than Ocean Club. We took the shuttle from Ocean Club to OCW a few times to have a drink or you could go to the restaurant there.

We just got back from a week at Ocean Club and loved it. They do have a couple of studios that have screened in balconies! We stayed in one of them- they are in the Allamanda building which is an oceanfront building. When I called the Ocean Club Resorts 1800 number, I was told none of the studios at OC are screened, but we were pleasantly surprised. Mosquitos were not an issue, but it was nice to be screened anyway. I was worried because everybody talks about how much nicer OCW is, but we loved OC. We didn't have a car, and it wasn't an issue. We took the shuttle to OCW and could walk to quite a few restaurants from there. One night we took the diner's shuttle ($8 each) to the Tiki Hut for their WEd. night special which was very good. There was construction going on next to OCW, but OC was very quiet. I really recommend OC.

Hi-FYI there are several Studios at OC that are screened, they do not advertise them, I suppose, because then everyone would want them. As mentioned, there are two in the Allamanda Bldg. There is one in Eucalyptus(2nd floor) and one each in Frangipani and Gardenia(both 3rd floor). All three face the garden and beach.
As for the construction at OCW, both projects should be under roof by early summer, so noise should be down by then. I like the location of OC much better and I don't see the grounds at OCW as being any better than OC. Both are lovely. OC has the advantage of being right across from the golf course, a must for some folks. And you can take the shuttle any time to OCW and go to Ports of Call for dinner or shopping.
