Ocean Club too elegant?

We will be celebrating our 25th and want totake our daughter 18 on trip as it will be probably one of the few trips left as a family. Want an elegant resort but also not too boring for 18 year old. Thought of Oean Club and Caneel Bay. Want to go rom Nov - March 2003 and have also thought of a cruise.
Length of trip is 9-12 days and have also thought of Costa Rica and Tahiti. We won't be aBLe to afford another trip for quite awhile. Have about $7 - $10 thousand Cdn. to spend. Any thoughts? I like this web site...did not realize Long Bay in BVI didn't have a pool!!!

First of all Long Bay in Tortola has 2 pools. If you are thinking of the Oc or Caneel Bay I don't think you can go wrong w/either for an elegant relaxing trip. If your daughter likes to do a lot of reading and relaxing then she should be fine. If you stick to November through early December then you should be able to get great rates, your $ will go further because it is low season. If you go to the South Pacific (Bora-Bora/Moorea) be prepared to spend $$$$$. Went 5 years ago for 2 weeks and stayed in top places and for our family of 4 we spent $12,000 just on air, room and tax-no meals. Another consideration might be Pink Sands on Harbour Island (off Eluethra) in the Bahamas.

I was also going to recommend Pink Sands or Ocean Club on Paradise Island, as there are so many things to see and do on PI.

Harbour Island is very small, but lots to see there as well and during high season, there will be lots of people for her to meet.

There's also the ATlantis on PI that might fit the bill and it is one of the most amazing resorts now in the carribean. It will be a trip she would remember for ever.

Let us know what you decide to go, and most of all have a wonderful time.

tweedy

Ocean Club is owned by the Atlantis. Don't think a lot of people know that. It is also one of the very few 5 star resorts in the Bahamas Islands, but rates START at $450/night. Guess you get what you pay for and since Atlantis owns it I imagine you get full access to that resort by staying at the Ocean Club.

Danny

I don't know that elegant describes Caneel Bay but it is a lovely resort with wonderful beaches on property. No phones, no tv and laid back low maintance property but no marble, no glamour if that is elegant. Not sure how Long Bay got in the mix because it is not the highend that you say you are looking for but a moderate modest property where the swimming beach can offer no swimming due to the rocky water and rough waves. Tortola doesn't offer any elegant properties. Look at Peter Island, Little Dix or Guana Island or even Bitter End which is more commercial but will offer your daughter lots of opportunities for sailing/boating. If you use luxurylink.com as a information link, you'll see loads of elegant properties and you might be able to pick up a bargain depending on the time you go.
