Nudity in front of the hotel staff...right or wrong, I have bet with my friend...

Topless is one thing on islands where it is accepted, but I had an argument with my friend in St. Barth's over nudity in front of the hotel chambermaids. She has no compunctions about having them or the waiters enter her room fully dressed or completely naked or in between, whether to serve breakfast, leave towels or whatever. Once lately I had to call for towels in a hotel room when none had been left and I only discovered this AFTER taking the shower, and was without a robe or anything and quite embarrassed. My friend says I am nuts, hotel staff has seen it all especially in the islands. Who is right, we have a bottle of Veuve Clicquot riding on this! Thanks!

Tacky, tacky, tacky!
Sounds like she is just getting a cheap thrill to me...
What, does she think these people WANT to come into her room to deliver towels or food and find her bent over picking up a magazine off the coffee table?!
Does she have no respect for the feelings of others? Jeez!!!
Not to mention the possibility of someone getting the wrong idea and jumping on her! (Or is that what she is looking for so she can get her room comped?)
Chill the Veuve Clicquot (and drink some for me - it's my fave!)

I think it is gross and inconsiderate to be nude in front of hotel staff. On the other hand, how many times have I been in bed when hotel staff knocked once really really quick and then opened the door and came in. So far, nothing much was happening at the time but I have learned to always put the security lock on! I think staying in bed with the sheets pulled all the way up is okay, given my experiences and hotel staff is used to that, but nudity and lack of respect for privacy is terrible. The champers is yours, no doubt.

Ummmmmm.....and how will you decide who is "right"? By the number of pro or con responses on an anonymous travel forum?

Of course it's your hotel room...you can do whatever you want. It's not illegal to be nude in front of the staff.
Tacky and low class, yes.
Illegal or prohibited, no.

Well now Terry, why would your friend limit her nudity-in-front-of-the-staff routines just to the islands? I mean, why not at The Fairmont, or The Bel-Air, The Plaza, or The Fairfield Inn out by the airport?
What the heck, staff is staff, the world around. They don't count for anything. Why, they're essentially invisible, have no feelings, and certainly don't require any consideration.
In fact, I see no reason why the staff shouldn't share her viewpoint and be nude around her, too. I'll bet Alphonse, or Jean-Pierre would love to deliver breakfast, or a towel, clad in nothing but a smile.
How do you think your friend would like that?
The next post we'll see is the friend complaining about being a crime statistic on St. Martin.
Of course, Terry, your post could just be a troll, looking to start a thread.

Terry, sounds like your "friend" may have a screw loose.
Very, very tacky behavior, not to mention very dangerous.

Nonudie, she may be looking for a "loose screw"!!

Tacky and rude. Who cares if she is comfortable with people seeing her naked but it's the point that she might offend or make the hotel staff uncomfortable. Another point is, does she really want to attract any unwanted attention also?

This is not very acceptable. Topless only for outside sunbathing. This is rather crude if done intentionally.
