No seeums in June and Reef Bay hike

Hello everyone,
I know someone has probably answered these questions before, but can't seem to find the answers.

Anyone do the Reef Bay hike with the National Park Service or alone? How strenuous was it? Anyone take the boat back?

Also, No seeums, anyone know how bad they are in June? Have heard they are worse in the shaded areas, is this true?

Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks

I got back from St John last week and by boyfriend and I did the Reef Bay hike with the ranger. It was great and I honestly think we gained alot by taking it with the ranger. She pointed out alot that we would have missed on our own.
It is a strenuous hike, even just going down towards Reef Bay. There are several short but very steep uphill sections and you really need to wear good sneakers or hiking boots. Also bring as much water as you can, you'll need it. We took the boat back and it was great! We first got to swim for a bit and then climbed into the boat for the ride back to the National Park Dock.
Definitely use the insect repellent the mosquitos and especially the noseeums can be miserable!

Just got back from St. John and, judging from where the Reef Bay Trail is located, it did not look enticing. It is way up in the mountain and it looks to be a long way down. This past week was very hot, humid and very hazy. Locals said summer was arriving a little early. My advice would be to hike around the Salt Pond area or the Annaberg Ruins/Leinster Bay/Waterlemon Bay Trail. It is a nice nature walk/hike without too much exhertion and the snorkeling in both places is fantastic. St. John is about relaxation, mon. Enjoy!
