We are going to Nevis in Nov. and are trying to decide between the two. Any advice? I have never been to either. We like small places but a bigger resort would be OK too if its not huge.

If you are going to be on island long enough why not try both? Nisbet is smaller and more traditional. 4S is bigger and the Caribbean's only 5 diamond resort. The layout of 4S is such that it never seems full. And, wow, what gardens! They have three oceanfront fresh water pools. The restaurants are not crammed in one location and the spa is top notch. You might want to check out Montpelier and the Hermitage for mountain plantation resorts too. If you decide to stay at only one place be sure to ask your concierge to arrange a "dine-around" at the other properties so that you can check them out for the next time you visit.

Thanks for the advice. I assume you have been to both. I might actually think about splitting the time between the 2. Is Nov. typically really busy? It would be at the beginning of the month.

Knowing

The grounds at the FS are beautiful, luxuriously spacious guest rooms with beautiful views - even the mountainside ones. And, of course, you have the Award winning Four Seasons' service.
They had all the nice touches - Wonderful bathrobes and slippers
A Pillow menu, including non-allergic
Twice-daily housekeeping service including turndown service (and the beds - oh my!)
And on and on.

Nevisian - I think I will take your advice and split between the two. We are going to stay at FS for 7 nights and Nisbet for 5. I think this will give us enough time to see what is our favorite. Also, I just learned about the search feature and in looking over old posts about Nevis, I noticed you said you have lived there for 10 years. WOW, how amazing and lucky. Also, I saw another post that said you just rented a FS villa? So of course now I am confused if you live there or rent for vacation?

We stayed for two weeks in November 2005. One week at Montpelier and one week at Nisbet. We "visited" the FS for golf and spa.

November is a great month to go! It's before busy season and should be after the hurricane season...should be, fingers crossed!

You will love it. We're going back for a week in December...back to Montpelier.

FS is pretty big, but it's spread out a bit and should be on the quieter side. Just make sure you get out and get around the island!

We rented first (1996): fell in love with the island and people and now live here (a forced early retirement has it's good side). We were doing the snowbird routine U.S. and Grand Cayman before. Right now I'm racking up frequent flier miles to the west coast of the U.S. I'm doing Senior care in Palm Springs CA. ...115 degrees, sandstorms and no rain all summer. We just got back to Nevis to cool off! You should see how the garden has grown (in spite of the family of monkeys that have taken up residence). By the way, at the 4S - ask for a room facing the old sugar mill ruin up the fairways toward Mt. Nevis. An ocean view can be boringly black at night and the view of the clouds over the Mt. is always kinetic and you see some lights from the villas twinkling at night . You are also facing the cool breezes. The first floor has wooden decks and the second floor has screened decks (more privacy). I'd suggest the 2nd floor screened deck. And do room service breakfast on the deck. It's a romantic way to start the day. The rooms are usually a bit less $$$ too.

Oh yes, as skbfan says - take a trip to St. Kitts. The ferry service between the islands has never been better (1/2 hr -40 min. Charlestown to Basseterre) and now there is a car ferry (Sea Bridge). We haven't be able to try it yet but our friends say that it is a 15 minute trip across. (not downtown to downtown).
