new to aruba
 

I am planning on going to Aruba this August.Does anyone know the weather then? We plan on staying at the Raddison - any suggestions regarding certain room locations?
Any info would be helpful!

Hi. You will love Aruba! We went in early Sept 2002 and had perfect weather. The Radisson is a great choice. The grounds are beautiful and the beach is perfect. Can't help you with the room choices as we just stayed in a standard garden view though I think I would opt for ocean view next time.

Be sure to hit happy hour and watch the sunset from Kokoa's bar at the end of the DePalm Pier right next to the Radisson.

Also be sure to eat at El Gaucho (my husband still raves about the steak at that restaurant) and do the Kukoo Kunuku party bus...a blast!

Expect the weather to be hi 80's, low 90's, bright, sunny and breezy. It'll be fine. You will be cooled by the ever present breeze. BOn dia!

When I was in Aruba last summer, we got a light drizzle on a couple days, but otherwise breezy, warm, and very pleasant. (Rumors about Aruba being a desert are false --- it does rain in Aruba, just not much.)

Actually its alot closer to a desert than a rain forest. :S- If you inland you will see the most predominant plant life is cactus. The beach areas are pretty nice however. Do plan to see the natural bridge and get used to hearin "bon dia", the local dialect for good day. I'm sure you'll like it.

True, as jacketwatch says, Aruba looks desert-like, but it gets more rain than Los Angeles and eastern Oregon/Washington...about 16 inches per year. But it's still about the driest of the Caribbean islands.

We have vacationed in Aruba many times and once stayed at the Radisson. We are not picky about views so the garden view was fine for us--happier to spend money on dining. However, if not getting an oceanview room ask what view you will have from your room upon checking in. Our first room overlooked the driveway. We changed rooms immediately and had a view of the top of palm trees in the back building near the fish restaurant which was fine because it was quiet and near a car parking lot. Room was very nicely decorated in pale yellow and light green with dark wood shutters. Great pools and landscaping.
Pier is fun for happy hour. The only thing we did not like was that the beach was invaded by cruise ship passengers on certain days.
Lots of excellent restaurants in Aruba including Madame Janette, El Gaucho, Marandi, Rumba, Chalet Suisse, Amazonia and the private dinner on the beach at the Bucuti (limited tables, by reservaions only made in advance). The Laguna Fishmarket at the Radisson was very good and great chicken satays at Gilligan's. Pizza is good at Tomato Charlies near the Occidental.
Reservations can be made online for most of the restaurants, you can find their websites online (rumba-aruba etc.).
We love Aruba--have a great time!
