Nevis trip report

Well first of all let me say I had a wonderful time. I have been to Nevis several times, but I always enjoy it so much.

I dined at Four Seasons, Montpelier, Bananas Bistro, Nisbet Plantation, Gallipot, Coconut Grove and Golden Rock. All the meals I had while I was there were great. Coconut Grove had just opened 2 weeks prior to when I ate dinner there, so they are trying to get the kinks worked out. The owners put a lot of money into this property.

My mother lives in Nevis, so I stayed with her in her house. I took my now 8 month old daughter and it was her first time at the beach so it was pretty exciting for her. Nevisians are very friendly warm people. And they LOVE babies, it was funny, everywhere I went I heard "hi baby" talking to my little one. It was sweet.

Anyway, spent only a couple of days on the beach, went to Pinneys and Nisbet. I love Nisbet beach, it is not great for swimming right in front of the resort, but if you walk down the beach a bit it is better. The chairs and hammocks of the resort are up a bit from the water and the palm trees are huge. It really is a beautiful spot.

Nevis is a beautiful island it is so green and the mountains are spectacular. I had the opportunity to look at several homes ther and some have the most amazing views of St Kitts.

Went to the FS and walked around the golf course. I know why it is one of the top courses in the Caribbean, it is just spectacular.

The weather was great for the most part, except for the first couple of days as the whole Caribbean really was wet! But once it cleared up I saw no rain, not even the daily showers one might expect in the region. It was beautiful sunny and hotter than it normally is this early.

If anyone has any questions let me know.

I am now looking forward to the next Caribbean trip in November. St Barths, we have been there many times, but I always want to go back!

I hope someone read this, considering how many people asked in advance for some kind of trip report, or did I just waste a bunch of time typing this... ?

Great Trip Report! Enjoyed reading it. You should post a copy at www.islandimage. com

Your feedback is helpful to future visitors. Lots of people going to St. Kitts & Nevis this summer....

Where is Coconut Grove located? Did you make it over to Sunshines?

Thank-You for the trip report. I followed your posts while you were in nevis and they were very helpful to me. Im leaving to go to Nevis in 1 week and I'm really looking forward to it. Alot of people on this board have answered my questions and gave me good advice. How did you daughter do on the plane ride?

lizpereira May 30th, 2005 11:54 AM

Where is Coconut Grove located? Is it upscale dining?

JT81870, where are you staying in Nevis? Hope you plan to post a Trip Report as well....

MIM04 May 30th, 2005 01:03 PM

jt - thanks, hope you have a wonderful time. Where are you staying in Nevis? Make sure you have dinner at Bananas (closed Sun and Mon) I think it really is one of (if not the best) cuisine on the island. My daughter did really well. She is pretty much always quiet when we go out, does not really cry or fuss unless there is a real reason for it. So, she was great.

Liz - Coconut Grove is very upscale and very very expensive. The entrees are $31-$47 US, the appitizers are about $20 on average. We did not stay for dessert as there was no power and we were just ready to go. I think desserts were $10 or $11 something like that.

We are staying at the FS. We stayed at the FS on the Big Island and Maui and we really loved the FS on the Big Island. Someone I know went to Nevis FS and said it is set up the same way as on the Big Island property. I dont like high rise hotels. My youngest daughter is 18 months and a real handful. We wont be going to far with her for a while. My in-laws are staying with the 3 girls for the week!!! We did the meal plan because we really didnt think we wanted to venture out except for snorkeling and the rain forest. We are super busy at home with the girls and both of us have VERY hectic jobs. Im starting to regret it after reading your reviews of all the food.

MIM04 May 30th, 2005 03:14 PM

Well, I hope you have a great trip. Sounds like a much needed break!

If you decide to go out for just one dinner, go to Bananas. I think all of the FS guests go there one (sometimes two nights) during their stay. Many of the FS guests do not leave the property much because they like the self-contained atmosphere.

Anyway, the concierge there calls Bananas a ton of times all day to make reservation for folks for dinner.

I had the Jerk chicken and jerk pork, both were excellent. the grilled shrimp is very good as well as the chicken curry (I have eaten there many many times and I dont think I have had a bad meal) (although I like the jerk chicken and pork the best)

I urge you to at least take a taxi around the island for maybe a couple of hours and just have a look around, its such a beautiful place!

I know lots of people who buy property after one visit!

Coconut Grove Restaurant is located on the main island road near Nelson Springs. It's about a mile or so north of the Four Seasons's Resort and across from Hertz Car Rental.

As reported, it is very expensive (even more so than the restaurants at the Four Seasons). The food is quite good but those prices it should be fabulous and quite honestly it simply is not. They have some growing pains.

Very nice read! Thanks for posting. If you wouldn't mind fielding some questions off-line, I'd appreciate it. andyran26.2 at gmail dot com. Thanks again.

Andy - I just sent you an email.

jt81870 May 31st, 2005 03:37 PM

So If I have to make a choice to go out for one night to eat, Do you think it should be Bananas? Does it take a few days to get reservations? Also, what is the way to get up to Bananas? Is it a tram?

MIM04 May 31st, 2005 04:17 PM

Yes go to Bananas for dinner if you only have one meal out. I would just have the concierge call the morning you want to go. They leave a message then they will get confirmation from Bananas in the afternoon. There is a tram up from where the taxi will drop you off. Ask for TC or Rita to come pick you up - best drivers on the island, both women.
