Which restaurants do you recommend in Nevis? Also, is it a hard hike to the top of the peak. Anything else that we should not miss? We are going next week and I can't wait.

Montpelier Plantation (dinner esp) (w/o kids), Bananas Bistro, Hermitage for Sunday breakfast or for dinner. Golden Rock for lobster salad (lunch). I normally eat a few times at the Four Seasons for lunch. Gallipot. Nisbet for lunch if you go to the beach there. You don't have to do this, but I seem to end up there during lunch time and the restaurant is right there on the beach.
The hike is not hard, IMO. The botanical gardens are really nice. I am trying to think of what I normally do there. Its nice to just relax and read a book, or go to the beach at Nisbet and sit under a palm tree. It is so beautiful there, just being there is special
I go back in a few weeks and I cannot wait. I hope you have a fabulous trip!

If you plan to hike to the top of Nevis Peak, please consider a guide.
The peak is nearly 4000 ft, the steepest in true rainforest conditions requiring some nearly vertical climbing using roots and vines as climbing aids in places.
The peak is nearly always surrounded in a cloud which provides the moisture to create the rainforest conditions.
Truely an unforgettable hike.
Bring sturdy hiking shoes.

I highly recommend the chef at Oualie Beach Hotel. Their beach is a great place to hang out. You can also ferry over to St. Kitts, which is a great island, also. Have fun!

Santa - thanks for bringing that up. I know someone who went without a guide and he got lost. I am not sure how experienced you are with hiking, but of course a guide is a smart thing... have fun!

I would like to be more experienced than I am at hiking, but I have gotten somewhat overweight since I gave up smoking.
And to the OP, I have not climbed either peak-Nevis or Liamiga, but have been told many first hand tales at the bars(s).
The hike can be done by one that considers themselves "fit".

MIM's restaurant list is a good one. Also consider having lunch at the Tea Room at the Botanical Gardens. For an upscale (and pricey) dining experience try the relatively new Coconut Grove restaurant. For casual lunch or dinner there's Pizza Beach. You'll also find good food at Mount Nevis Hotel.

Agree that you should use a guide if you want to climb Nevis Peak. Check out Jim Johnson's Top to Bottom Tours for other interesting hikes.

In addition to the great recs above, have a painkiller and a meal at Sunshine's. Check out the BBQ and music jam night at Oalie Beach Hotel (it was Tuesdays when we were there in Oct). Be sure to ask in the restaurant for Chef Jason, who sometimes posts here. Food is wonderful (my first tender steak in the Caribbean!), and the cast of characters in the bar is fun.

We loved driving around the island and stopping at the blue signs to have a look around, I think they are called "Nevis Heritage Trails" and most lead to ruins that can be mysterious and beautiful. Check out the racetrack. Stop at Golden Rock Plantation and look around, maybe hike the short "monkey trail" (we saw wild pigs but no monkeys!). Shop at Bocane Pottery. Watch out for goats! And monkeys!

Another fun thing to do is pack a small backpack, wear your swimsuit, and park at Cades Bay Hotel. From there you can walk all the way to Sunshines, if the tides are right and you have water shoes. There are a couple of beach bars as your reward, and the beaches are gorgeous.

There is an easier hike from the Golden Lemon inn to a place on Mount Nevis called the Source. . . you definitely don't need a guide and it is a fun hike. . . i thought the pottery place in Newcastle by the airport was great. . we bought a few pieces

LOL, I forgot about Coconut Grove. I have been several times and it is a hit or miss. sometimes its good, sometimes not so good. The pizza is good though. It is a beautiful restaurant though.

Also, I think the last poster meant Golden Rock, Golden Lemon is on St Kitts.

ejs - I would not worry to much. I am sure you will have good food and a great time!

You have received some great advice about spending time in Paradise. We just returned from Nevis a month ago and would like to add that if you have lunch at the FS, eat at the Mango's restaurant. It is their newest - right by the water, brightly painted and better food than the Cabana. Also, the best dinner we had was at the Cooperage at the Old Manor House. You really don't hear much about it, but we sent other people and they came back and raved about it as well. There is also horseback riding and sunset sails aboard catamaran's
IMO, there is no other Caribbean island that is as alluring or beautiful as Nevis. Enjoy!

If you want to go to Miss Junes you MUST have a reservation. She is not open every night, have Nisbet call for you to see which night(s) she will be open during your stay (if you decide to do that) She has to have a head-count early because sometimes if she does not have enough people she does not open.

Skb fan, both those restaurants are on Nevis and Mingles is in Cades bay area, about 2 miles from pinneys on the main road, where the old Cla Cha Del was. There is a beach view, but it is about 300 yrds from the water front.

We are very excited about mingles, it is a local style restaurant which will be great for my guest, as I have only been able to send people to one restaurant for a while now if they wanted local food. They opened last night, so I haven't been able to try them, but i'll post back when I do. I'm sure I won't be let down I know a few of the cooks and they are great at there craft and profesional.

I really enjoyed Double Deuce. Beach restaurant...very relaxing, try the stinger there, too.
