Nevis - Nisbet or Montpelier

We are planning our 20th Anniversary in Nevis. Having a very difficult time in choosing between Nisbet and Montpelier. I am aware that Nisbet is on the beach and Montpelier is not. I do like staying on the beach, but can do without it if Montpelier is the nicer of the two. Would appreciate any information from someone who has either stayed at or visited these resorts that could help me with my decision. Thanks!

Well, both are simply lovely. If being on the beach isn't a decisive factor, let me say two things. The pool area at Monpelier is the nicer one in my opinion. And if you're like me, you might be more inclined to explore more of Nevis if you stay at a place without a beach. If I stayed at Nisbet, I would certainly get out a little bit, but with a very pleasant beach right there, it would require a bit more effort to leave.

Food, service, and grounds are of very high quality at both places, in my opinion. The two places do offer a joint package where you stay 3 nights at one and 4nights at the other--perhaps that would eliminate your need to make a decision?

I have visited but not stayed at either Nisbet or Montpelier but I agree that if you have enough time, splitting your stay between the two would give you the best of both types of lodging. We stayed at the Hermitage, not far from Montpelier, and we found driving very easy and, because the island is small, it doesn't take too long to go anywhere.

If you choose only one place, I would recommend Montpelier, because staying in a plantation house in the hills is a unique experience. They also have their own private beach.

Let us know what you decide.

What a dilemma: I think that Montpelier has the edge over Nisbet (albeit a slight edge) because of the breathtaking setting and the exclusive stretch of beach that belongs to the property. The food and service are superb. Nisbet is more windswept and spreadout. Last year, Montpelier and Nisbet had a join Mountain and Sea package where you would stay at both. It's an intriguing option. One thing I will say, if you don't plan on driving, Montpelier can be a bit isolated. I would be happy to answer any other questions.

Thank you all for your input. We have decided on Montpelier and will rent a car.
