Negril or Runaway Bay?

My wife and I plan to go to Jamaica in December and have heard/read a lot about Negril. We are looking for feedback on Runaway Bay in general and Breezes Runaway resort in particular (or other resorts in Runaway Bay). Looking for more quiet atmosphere but with nice beach, clear water and good snorkeling nearby.

I was in Runaway Bay several years ago during the winter season, and found the water clarity near the shore at that time year rather disappointing due to the windy conditions. The winds generally blow on shore out of the northeast. The waves break on the reef off-shore and the sand and sediment wash in. Since Negril is on the west coast, the winds blow out to sea and the water near the shore is calmer and clearer.

Negril is more laid back than Runaway Bay, but the diving is better at Runaway Bay. Negril is more expensive, but the beach is MUCH better. Negril is my favorite place, but Treasure Beach is fabulous if you are looking to get away from people. I guess it depends on your prive range - take a look at Poinciana by Sandals and compare it to what you will get at Breezes for a comparison.
Negril is one of my favorite places in the world so I am a little biased.

My husband along with two friends of ours went to Jamaica for the first time this past July. We stayed in Runaway Bay and loved it, however we rented a villa for the week. Unfortunately we didn't get to Negril so I can't comment on that area. I will say though, the villa experience was absolutely the most incredible vacation I had ever had. We had four bedrooms, each with its own bath and a cook, butler, gardener and housekeeper. It was right on the beach and had a swimming pool.
This is an easy answer: NEGRIL!!!!!
We were there recently and had a
great time! We stayed at the T-Water
Hotel, but found lots of much nicer
places to stay at about the same
price range. T-Water was ok, but
I thought some of the other places
were prettier and had better food.
Janice

Negril, Negril, Negril...
Heaven on Earth!!!
I have seen few places as beautiful and unspoiled as Negril. And...watersports abound if you are into lots to do. Have fun!!
