Negril on the beach

Trying to figure out where to stay on the beach at Negril after spending a couple of days at Rockhouse on the cliffs. Do not want an AI and need a place that is nice but not too expensive- meaning more than $350 a night. Any advise would be appreciated.

I've been looking for places to stay on the beach this January. Just from reading, I'd look at Coco la Palm, The Palms, maybe Idle Awhile.

In addition to those listed, which are all great suggestions (although I am not really high on Charela), check out Rondel Village and Country Country. Idle Awhile and Coco La Palm would be my first and second choices in no particular order. They are both on the nicest stretch of beach in my opinion.

How about on the beach for under a $100 a night? Is that still possible in Negril?

Have been to Negril several times and love it and its 7 mile beach---so relaxing (unless it is Spring Break Time, but each to his own!).
The places already mentioned would be great. We , however, have stayed at Negril Nirvana on the Beach, a small complex of various types of accommodations. The Veranda suites are particularly pleasant. These are not fancy but more "authentic" and you do not feel like you never left the United States which is why I travel in the first place: to get a sense of how the rest of the world lives, etc. The beach here is your own private section of gorgeous beach and is staffed by a guard to watch over your things and you. The employees are very nice and become like family. The smallness of the complex makes this happen rather quickly and it is a nice feeling. If you really like to be pampered and need 3 or 4 star surroundings that resemble what you left back home, then you probably are not the type who would appreciate this gem of a place. The grounds are wonderful and feel very "tropical" and it is quite private compared to the others mentioned to you.
The great thing about 7 Mile Beach is that in either direction you can walk to restaurants and entertainment --no cars needed. Restaurants will send a car to pick you up if you want. We often walk to a restaurant on the beach while it is still early evening and then have the restaurant car take us back to our accommoadations.

Hey Suze:
Right next door to Nirvana is White Sands. Standard room rate for beachside is about $75.00, Deluxe about $115.00. Nice low key place with lots of repeat clientele.

Thanks spook. Haven't been to Negril in several decades but loved it in the 70's and 80's. I figured I'd have to give more than $25/night for a room now -haha.

Actually I believe the first trip was $4/night at Sammy's ;-)

We just got back from staying at Rondel Village and it is a good place for a good price. The location is perfect.. on the beach and walking distance to many restaurants, bars, shopping, etc.

There is a very cool bar right next store to Rondel Village called the Boat Bar that I also recommend. Prices are good and they have a pool table. Dave, the bartender, will play whatever music you want and stay open as late as you want as long as everyone is having fun.

We've stayed at Coco La Palm many times. The upper floor junior suites are the nicest rooms on the property, but even those are starting to show some wear and tear around the edges.

Also during prime vacation weeks, Coco caters to lots of families with small children. So if you're looking for a more peaceful resort, I'd suggest Idle Awhile, which is just next door.

Either property is preferable to Charela, which I don't like at all, and both are on the best part of Negril's famous Seven Mile Beach.
