Negril in November or December?

Negril in November or December?
My husband and another couple are looking to visit Jamaica at the end of this year. How is the weather during these months and when would be the best time to go? I do realize that the week of Christmas and New Years is not good, which we are not interested in anyways.
This will be my first trip to Jamaica. We honeymooned in Antigua last year and loved it. I'm hoping that Negril won't disappoint us and having us wish we were in Antigua. Can anyone compare the two?

One NEVER knows what fall weather in Jamaica will be. The first two weeks in October can be sunny and superb -- or rainy. November cools up and gets breezy (Jamaican understatement for windy), "Christmas rains" come in mid November. www.stormcarib.com will keep you updated on tropic weather. Antiqua is 'scruftier' than Jamaica --the landscape drier, the diversions far far fewer outside the resorts, and Antiguans a tad more reserved than Jamaicans. Even in a warm rain, Negril and South Coast area have plenty of diversions. Actually, Christmas and New Year's can be one of the most delightful times to be on island. Pick an area like Treasure Beach on the drier, sunnier and more remote South Coast in St.Elizabeth and you'll also find you're included in real local life with community-wide bashments/like 'block parties' in the city, church services and performances,
kite-flying contests, bonfires on beaches, and even a free concert --last year, it was Jimmy Cliff. See the community Web site for Treasure Beach -- 2.5 hours from Negril so you could always visit Negril on a daytrip --
at www.treasurebeach.net for a very good look at the area. Premium rates/rates higher than normal winter/high season rates will be in effect island-wide for Christmas and New Years weeks and accmodations will be hard to find,tho, at this late date.

I agree with Tivertonhouse.
The weather can be unpredictable in Jamaica at that time of the year. It can be rainy in December as well so you never really know.
You might probably want to check the weather for those months and see what the pattern has been in past years.
The fact is though that there are plenty of diversions even if it does rain.

Any more comparisons to Antigua? We loved Antigua because it was so dry and barely rained. This gives us plenty of beach time which is what we go for!

You might be surprised how affordable Anguilla or Provo can be in the off-season.
We recently narrowed it down to those two for an early December trip and finally chose Provo. Comfort Suites is quite reasonable (short walk to beach). Anguilla has a surprising number of inexpensive lodgings, 'though some are not beachfront.
I'm told the Cancun-to-Akumal area can have unreliable weather in December.

If you prefer a drier landscape like Antigua, head for Treasure Beach area instead of Negril. www.treasurebeach.net is the community Web site with a full spectrum of accomodations available. Book now as many properties are already sold out
for Christmas/New Year's -- and even the whole month of November.

An e-mail just up from island this morning tells us that guests of ours arrived last night at Treasure Beach's new auberge, MAR BLUE.DOMICIL and dined on lobster bisque, cream of avocado with leeks, pasta e pesto, ackee and salfish roulade, pineapple chicken, shrimp a la plancha,
garden vegs, rice and peas and bananas flambe with vanilla mousse. American Airlines inflight magazine, The American Way, has a feature on Treasure Beach villas, including many of ours at jamaicaescapes.com, in its August issue (See 'Villa-Fabulous' by NPR/All Things Considered writer Marion Winick). Mar Blue, Unforgettable, The Buccaneer, La Casa Duna, Villa Arcadia -- there are lots of very personable choices that will be more memorable than Negril, as is the area itself. Unless you're a die-hard nightlife fan, the quieter, gentler pace of Jamaica is definitely away from Negril.

We've gone to Negril for Thanksgiving the last couple of years and had great weather....not too hot, hardly any rain. No guarantee but there it is.
High season starts at most hotels on 12/15 so it's cheaper then too.

I have been to Negril (we stay on the Cliffs) twice during Thanksgiving week. First time it would only rain a short while in the afternoon...just enough time to take a nap. Last year it was absolutely beautiful! We're going back this Thanksgiving week again. We love Negril!
