Yes,<BR><BR>I have been to Negril 3 times... Very safe. You can walk the beaches at night, and go anywhere you want by cab. As a tourist you will actually be safer than the people who live there. I know this may fly in the face of pupular rumours about Jamaica, but it's actually far safer in Negril than most American cities... When you are in Negril, you are basically in the "sticks", with a crime rate to match...<BR><BR>A few tips on Jamaica - Take the cabs with Red License plates, and negotiate your prices before you get in the cab. Don't bother changing your money to Jamaican, and bring lots of one and five dollar bills. Also, don't bother going to tourist attractions by bus (i.e. from the resorts). You will have more fun getting a cab and looking around at your own pace. <BR><BR>Most of all, have fun, and bring back lot's of Blue Mountain Coffee...<BR><BR>Eric

I'm glad to see your post, Eric. I had read that the only "legal" tender in Jamaican was their $, so was wondering about ATM/and where best to change money (here or there). So based on your experience, anywhere we would go in Negril US $ would be taken? Thanks.

Yes, US money is preferred throughout Jamaica. I usually just bring lot's of smaller bills, for cabs, trinkets, etc... There is nowhere in Negril that they won't gladly take US dollars. Using US dollars also helps prevent paing too much for things, due to the exchange rate (about 40 Jamaican dollars to one US dollar)...
