Need info on Sandal's Ocho Rios

We are booked at Sandal's Ocho Rios at the end of March and would like comments from anyone that has stayed there. What's this resort like? Is there anything we shouldn't miss out on? What about restaurants? What's the dress like? How elegant is formal night & what for instance do people wear for pirate's night? Which nights are these theme nights. Thanks for any info!!!!!

We went to Sandals Ocho Rios this past fall (November/98) and would not go back again. We love Jamaica and have visited 3 other Sandals (Royal Jamaican - simply wonderful!, Montego Bay, and Dunn's River) as well as Couples Ocho Rios, and Sandals Ocho Rios was by far substandard to any of these resorts. When we were there, the facilities were showing quite a bit of wear and tear and were often not terribly clean. However, they did start some renovations to the main lobby part way through the week so perhaps they have continued with the renovations and things will be improved by the time you go there. The beach is very small and narrow - we wound up taking the shuttle over to Sandals Dunn's River most days to enjoy their beach instead. The food was extremely disappointing, not as good as any of the other resorts mentioned above, particularly at the breakfast and lunch buffets. The exception was the Reef Terrace Grill, which served a fabulous strip loin steak with peppered shrimp. The service was very poor, with both staff and management ranging from indifferent to just plain rude. If you can understand Patois, you may notice the staff being very nasty about the guests and making fun of them - we overheard staff doing so to people who were standing right in front of them waiting for a drink/beach towel/seat in the restaurant, and all the while the guests probably didn't have a clue because they didn't understand Patois. Part way through the week, I had clothing taken from our room, and the management was completely unconcerned and did nothing to make up for it - not even a simple apology. In my own opinion, there are far better places in Jamaica to spend your money, and if you can change your reservations, you may want to consider doing so. Then again, each person's experience is different, so if you go, I hope you enjoy your stay - good luck!
