I am looking for information on the best place to stay in Barbados. What is the atmosphere there like? Is it a very busy place? How expensive does it tend to be for a five to seven day trip if you stay in a nice, but not posh hotel or inn? Any information at all would be very welcome. Please e-mail me or respond here. I have been to Sandy Lane a few years ago and loved it. The natives are the friendliest in the Caribbean and all services superior. Sandy Lane now closed for refurbishing although I can't imagine it getting better. We reserved the cheapest room and the hotel upgraded us to a beautiful suite when we arrived. The beaches at other hotels may be small but clean and beautiful, as well as the water. Some hotels seemed to be right at the edge of the road and I wondered if traffic noises could be heard in the rooms. Only the cities are busy but the resorts offer more peacefulness. Dining was an extraordinary experience no matter where we went. Some favorites were Carambola, Raffles and the Coach House. Don't miss the Bagatelle Great House, featured on Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous television show in the past.

I agree with much that was said in your first response, but you did said "not posh" and Sandy Lane is definitely about the poshist you can get! I have been to Barbados 16 times and there are a number of really nice places to stay. You can look them up at www.barbados.org and find your own price range for the time of year you are going. On the west coast there are many places that are very nice - Glitter Bay, Cobbler's Cove, Settlers Beach, Tamarind Cove, etc. etc. On the south coast, you can find nice hotels for much less money - Casuarina, for one. If you look some up, let me know what you find and I can help you narrow down your choices. Good luck!

We went to Barbados last April and stayed at the all inclusive Welcome Inn in St.Lawrence Gap. It was great. Try to get the Ocean View room, the view was amazing! This is a very affordable resort and the food was very good and the staff excellent. Nightly entertainment was wonderful. They have a very high guest return rate. Enjoy!

We stayed at the Almond Beach Club all inclusive resort in September 1995. I highly recommend it. A lot to do on the resort but opportunities to see the entire island. The food was great. Golfing and right on the beach.

Does anybody have personal information on the Cranes Beach Hotel? I am going there on my honeymoon and would be interested in any experiences (positive and negative). Also, how's the food on the island? Are there any quaint, local spots (off the beaten tourist path) that serve a great meal? I have information on restaurants from this site, but if there are others please let me know. One last question, are there any romantic places to go to have a quiet drink at night? Thanks!

The top place to stay in Barbados is the Sandy Lane.
Just ask Luciano Pavarotti, a regular visitor. It is
now closed for renovations for 18 months. The west
coast beaches that border the Sandy Lane and its
neighbor resorts are some of the nicest in the Caribbean. If money is no object, the Glitter Bay
and Royal Pavilion resorts are nice substitutes.
For dinner try Fathoms (great food at reasonable
prices) or the Cliff (out of this world food and
prices).

I just got back from Barbados. I had a great time, staying on the south coast at Casuarina Beach Club. The beach there is great, but the surf if a little rough - couldn't swim for a couple of days. The west coast is where the rocks, reefs and fish are. The island is more populated than a lot of the other islands. The public bus system is really handy and there a lot of great restaurants.

Though we've never stayed at Crane's. We always choose to go there when we're on a cruise and the ship docks there. We feel it's very lovely and romantic. It's a fairly long ride from Bridgetown. The beach is nice...not good for swimming, very rough surf. Hotel is pretty and quiet. We've never seen it terribly busy. Hotel staff charges us cruisers a couple of bucks to get in. Lunch on the terrace overlooking a greek columned pool is awesome. I'd love to stay there a week. Yes, I've also heard great things about Sandy Lane and Glitter Bay.

We are thinking of going to the Welcome Inn, Barbados for our 25th anniversary next year. It looks really nice, is affordable and offers all-inclusive, which is what we want. Does Barbados have plenty to see and do for a two week stay? We are not gamblers and we like to go off and explore on our own.

TRY THE SILVER SANDS ON THE SOUTH TIP OF THE ISLAND. IT'S NOT TO FAR FROM BRIDGETOWN. YOU CAN WALK TO OISTINS TO THE GROCERY STORE. STAND ON THE CORNER AND RIDE THE BUS OR VANS FOR $1.00 (1991) OR RENT A CAR. <BR>IT'S A NICE COMPOUND THAT SITS RIGHT ON THE BEACH, POOL , BAR AND RESTAURANT. <BR>HAVE FUN!

Has anyone stayed at the Royal Pavilion? My fiance and I are planning on getting married in Barbados in April, 1999. Does the Royal Pavilion have nightly entertainment? Otherwise, can anyone suggest where my wedding part (20 guests) could go for dancing/drink after our dinner reception at the Cliff? We stayed at the ALmond Beach Village last March. It was nice, but had quite a few children. We had considered the Almond Beach Club (as it is adults only) but we are glad we didn't stay there. It was small, cramped and didn't have much of a beach. <BR> <BR>We would definitely go back to Barbados because it was beautiful. I would either stay at Sandy Lane (very expensive) or the Royal Pavillon. They looked very nice. <BR> <BR>Have a good trip
