need help picking an island!

my parents and i are looking to go to an island for spring break. we arent much for the touristy stuff, but don't want a completely untouched/unsafe island either. we want to RELAX on the beach, see some sites, and eat a few dress-casual meals. looking to go for about a week, spend some time in a new exotic place, and get a tan. music and local entertainment is good, but no clubs please.

seems to me that alll islands are relatively similar...no idea on how to pick!!!!

any input will be appprecated....specific hotel suggestions too.

thanks!

Research Caribbean Travel Forum. Lots of info available as well as pictures. If you're looking for something during spring break better get busy. World Cup Cricket is held in the Caribbean this year during the months of March and April. Finding a particular type of accommodation may be a little difficult.

My suggestion for an island that meets your criteria is Bequia. As far as all the islands being similar, just the opposite. Each I have visited over the years have a separate and unique personality of their own. For example Saba vs St. Maarten/Martin or St. Vincent vs Aruba. Would not say one is better than the other but certainly different.

Have fun which ever you choose.

I have found the various islands to be very different. Some are crowded, some are touristy, some are lush or somewhat lush, some very arid, etc.

For a quick look at all the islands, go to http://www.doitcaribbean.com/.

What is your definition of "exotic" - that may help us recommend an island for you.

Also, any price parameters? That can make a difference on where you go and what hotel.

Also, you are planning your trip for Spring Break this year?

Do you have your passports? If not, you may be better off to stick with a US territory. After Jan 23, you need a passport to get back in the US from a foreign territory or go through a major hassle at the airport.

Spring Break is a busy time in the islands. You may not just get your pick of hotels, etc. If you are going this year, you probably want to decide very soon.

Tortola, bvi's !! beautiful, safe , friendly island. not too touristy, pretty laid back, nice beaches, bars, music. not a "club" island. check out Long Bay Beach Resort. imo , i wouldn't do AL there since this is a safe island and you should rent a car for your stay and explore / taste all there is(there are too many restaurants on island to keep yourself "locked" in at one place). also from Tortola you can day trip to Virgin Gorda( visit the Baths) or Jost Van Dyke( white bay is memorable )
