Need help fast//St John villa rental for November

We just decided to book a quick trip to St John in November. I need help choosing a 1 bedroom villa. I t hink we would like to be close to Cruz Bay..we would like to be able to walk to bars/restaurants..It seems like most of the rentals are in Coral Bay. How close would that be to town? I will take all ideas and if you have rented a specific villa please pipe in...I need to book quickly . Thanks.

Have a look at Gallow's Point. It is one of the few places on St John that is comfortable walking distance to Cruz Bay. It is a 60 unit condo complex run like a hotel. Very nice. we have stayed there several times.

You might also want to look at Lavender Hill, also close to town but we haven't stayed there. Frank Bay area is also "walking distance" but there will be some hills involved.

Nothing much in Coral Bay is walking distance to town and the town is much more spread out.

Coral Bay is literally as far as you can get from Cruz Bay and still be in St. John. It's more than a half-hour drive (perhaps 45 minutes).

Coconut Coast would probably be within walking distance of Cruz Bay, but these are apartments not a private villa. But I think you'll find it quite difficult to find a private villa in town. And, frankly, it's not really safe to walk into Cruz Bay at night (not to mention the hill).

Is there a location you would recommend that is close to Cruz? that wouldn't be too far of a drive to go back and forth?

There are a lot of areas that are not too far from Cruz Bay, but I'd first start looking for an available one-bedroom villa and then narrow it down by neighborhood. I think that's a more efficient process. You pick the villa for many other reasons, and one-bedrooms aren't all that numerous (one reason why you may see a lot more Coral Bay villas coming up).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Bellaboo, that is a great deal, however we were looking for a view. I ended up booking a 1 bedroom in Fish Bay... Has anyone stayed here ? http://www.vrbo.com/253498

We stayed 2 nights in Fish Bay [different cottage]before we were able to get to our usual rental in Coral Bay. I

t is a very dark drive from Cruz Bay to Fish Bay. It isn't too far, maybe 20 minutes, but it was pretty scary on those dark, narrow, "drive on the other side" streets and we were glad we only had to do it for a short time.

I'm a little worried now. I thought it was a 10 minute drive to Cruz Bay. Should I be concerned about the drive? Actually, its too late now..has anyone had a similar experience?

We stayed out that way and it was fine. Yes, the roads are dark and narrow, but there is NO traffic----you'll be lucky if you see 1 or 2 cars at night.

Don't worry, take your time and enjoy!
