Need Cayman Help!
 

GOing to Grand Cayman in March and we (2 females in mid twenties) were planning to stay at the Reef Resort on the east side in Colliers Bay. THe resort looks nice,in our price range, and we were interested in being away from the high rises and cruise crowds of 7MB. But according to Fodor's, it sounds like there is absolutely nothing on the east side of the island. We don't need to party every night, but would like to go out a few times. ANyone stay at the Reef or in the area? Are there any restaurants in the area? ANyone stay at Treasure Island on 7MB? ALso in our price range, and we were looking for some critiques? Thanks!

We stayed, last year, at Treasure Island Resort. We did the hotel room, not the condo. If you are looking to go on the cheap, Treasure Islands was probably the least costly. It was, however, just a regular hotel, which was fine with us, as all we did at the hotel was sleep and shower. We often had to wait for towels to be delivered to the rooms, just to shower, and we did have a slight ant problem. There was a fridge in the room, and a balcony that was right over one of their nice pools. We are non drinkers, but I can tell you that the big swim up bar seems quite popular. At night there was a guy who played steel drums, and that was nice.

We will be staying more toward Rum Point this year. For us, this will be better as we like it a bit more quiet and layed back. Rum Point was fantastic. 7MB was a beautiful beach and we will be back there to just enjoy the beach scene.

One last thought...did you try looking on some of the travel sites to see if you could get a package deal for airfare and hotel stay. We did very well using this last year.

The Reef is a very nice resort, but it is too far away from any action for 2 mid-twenties females. Grand Cayman has no hi-rises. You may want to stay close to 7Mile Beach, without the hustle and bustle. The Grand Caymanian is on the north sound and only 2 miles from 7MB. They have studios,1bdrm, and 2 bdrm suites The resort is really nice but their manmade beach is not. So we just drive everyday to our favorite section (s) of beach on 7MB. go to: www.grandcaymaian.ky

Feel free to email our [email protected] to get the full details...based on what you have posted I could generalise and say that you should reconsider if you want to party, The Reef is not the place for that.

However, there is a danger in generalising...we recently had two single ladies in their mid twenties come to stay at The Reef and they had a great time.... they both work in high stress jobs and really wanted to relax.... as far as going out a few times, they did, but they were more looking for nice restaurants and some lively beach bars rather than "clubbing".

If, on the other hand, you do want to find some clubs to hit... my honest answer would be to stay on 7MB... we are just too far away for that.

The Reef is all about "pure beach relaxation", but we are rarely told that our guests are bored :)

Forgot to mention.... although our Beachfront Studios do have huge king size beds that you pretty much need to use a walkie talkie to call from one side to the other.... we don't offer any suites that have two twin beds, so that may rule out The Reef for you..
