Need AI resort in caribbean with best off beachresort snorkeling...budget!

Hi....i live in philadelphia.

I am looking for an all inclusive resort in the caribbean ....one that has a good reef by the shore in the resort itself....for snorkeling (instead of taking trip for elsewhere with time limitations on snorkeling). It needs to have good shadow pool area and one that will interest toddlers(3yo) with water slides etc....and family friendly.

Can anyone suggest please? something cheap , safe and good!

I have been to montego bay jamaica...stayed in sunset beach resort and that was a great bang for the buck....good off beach snorkeling.

Thanks
Kris

Punta Cana, no good snorkeling
Virgin Islands, no AI, no cheap
Caymans--again, expensive, no AI

What is your actual budget? Are you definite about AI?

My only thought would be one of the Barcelo hotels in the Riviera Maya area of Mexico.

It's difficlult to find an AI hotel as you described with direct off shore snorkeling.

Akumel Beach Resort in Mexico, but no water slides. Excellant off beach snorkeling.

AI is only for a safety point and kid friendly fun.Well, if I could get a safe resort or hotel by the beach with good off beach snorkeling....i will pick any place in caribbean.

Heard virgin islands are good with no safety issues since being part of usa.

Found that st.john is great for snorkeling. ....is st.john good...?

Barcelo Maya has great snorkeling right at the resort. We stayed with kids and we had a great time.

Not many AIs in Grand Cayman, but many condos in the north part of Seven Mile Beach have snorkeling right in front. Also, staying at a condo would really cut your food bill. Grand Cayman is much safer than most islands in the Caribbean.

If you can forgo an AI, Grand Cayman is a great choice. However, the Marriott on 7 Mile Beach has an AI plan.

Though most people love St.John, I found the snorkeling there not as great as reported. Cozumel, the Rivera Maya and Grand Cayman were better. I even liked the snorkeling in Aruba, but you have to leave the resort area.

I say Beaches Turks and Caicos...you can walk down the beach a bit and there is a fabulous reef...saw all kinds of fish - and everyone swims out to it.....and the resort is beautiful - stay in the italian village.......

Beaches Turks & Caicos can hardly be considered "budget".

Thx all! By research I have narowwed down to these 'budget' AI resorts where free off beach/resort snorkel is great:

Barcelo Maya Palace AI mexico
Akumel Beach Resort in Mexico
La Ramonna AI in DR
cayolevantado in DR
Breezes Runaway Bay Jamaica

Now scratching my head , which is best bang for buck among these in the list LOL !

Akumel Beach Resort and Breezes Runaway Bay are pretty isolated if that is important to you. The Breezes resorts doesn't great really great reviews in general. The Barcelo will have more of what you stated you were looking for.

I don't care for the DR, so don't know much about their resorts.

Hi KVR!
Thx for info....You mean by "isolated" because they are far from city /cancun/shopping at playa etc?

Which Barcelo has best off beach/resort snorkelling ? The Barcelo maya palace or the barcelo maya colonial?

Thanks
kris

Friend did Akumal Beach Resort with his kids and he seemed to like it fine. Good snorkeling right from shore and acceptable, mediocre AI food. He got the best rate by shopping online and then contacting the resort directly and asking for a bit of a break. From what I recall, it was quite cheap and air to CUN can often be quite low -- it's effortless and cheap to bus from CUN to Playa Del Carmen, we've done it many times.

Try Dreams La Romana, Dominican republic. Good easy snorkeling at far right end of beach facing the water. Easy entry and interesting fish. Family-oriented, nice pools, decent food. Enjoy!

Responding to above post and Reviving an old thread that I started lol! I have been to Bermuda, Hawaii, Bonaire since I started this thread.

Anyone recommend a particular hotel or condo place in GC that they have experienced? Can you rent a car & drive in GC or is access to shops , restaurants and airport drive , pretty easy?

thanks
