need advise from snorkelers

We love to snorkel, most of our experience has been from the shore ie: STJ.

We went on a sail yesterday to Cayo Blanco off Vieques, great coral out there...but it was windy and had to snorkel in very rough waters. Lots of the snorkeling on this island is a swim away to one of the little islands. That got us thinking that we would feel better going that distance if we had those float belts that go around your waist. I have been searching different things like "flotation belt", etc and keep getting the water aerobic belts. Would hese work, anyone with other ideas? It is just to help us feel a little more secure. Thanks

Hi soggydollar -

My hubby uses a snorkel vest, not a belt. Would this work for you? http://www.floridascubadepot.com/scu...t_Snorkel_Vest

hi moosie

we really did not want the bulkiness of a vest(i know the belt is bulky as well, but it is down around the waist)

They have used them on the biobay pontoon boat, I should see where they get them!!

I just googled "Floatation Belt" and came up with this:

Very good for flotation are the full vests that are inflatable by blowing into a nozzle. They are very lightweight.

This is what we have used since we went to Caneel for the first time six years ago. They have a similar type belt available for guests to use. I went home and ordered our own. We would never go out as far as we do by ourselves.

The belt is called Hydro-Tone Flotation Belt.

hydro-tone.com/hydrotone.htm

Go to products and you'll see it on the right hand side--about $58. It is very light.

It has held up well for 6 years. Like new.

Well, I tried my own URL--didn't work. Google Hydro-tone flotation belt and it comes up. We love it because it allows us to stay easily above shallow coral and never damage it. Owa
