My boyfriend and I want to plan a trip to the caribbean in December. We are leaning toward St. Thomas. Does anyone have any advise as to the best island selection for us?

we are looking for a place that is both romantic and fun. We are both 25 and want the beautful tropical getaway as well as the fun get away. We are looking for a place we can do activities in the day such as watersports (inparticular -snorkeling, and parasailing)visit a natural beauty like botinical garden or a waterfall. At night we want a nightlife but not a 18-21 year old nightlife! :)

Jamaica !

Have heard great things about Negril and Treasure beach,Jamaica.

I would not recommend Aruba..it has more of the younger crowd type nightlife and not very good snorkeling.

I know this is not in the Caribbean however...Kauai, Hawaii is what really comes to mind for natural beauty and waterfalls galore. Good luck!!

I used to live in St Thomas and have been to St Lucia -

St Thomas would have more nightlife that you might be looking for.

Both islands are beautiful. St Lucia is more Caribbean and St Thomas more Americanized. St Thomas has more shopping, more to do in town. There is a lot more tourism in St Thomas so its more geared towards that.

The beaches in St Thomas are nicer (as St Lucia sand is darker)
Both are romantic with plenty to see and do. There is a good botanical garden on St Thomas, if you want more hiking type activities, rain forest type of things St Lucia is better for that.

I guess it depends on what are your highest priorities on the trip.

If you go to St. Thomas, you will be able to get to St. John and the other Virgin Islands quite easily for daytrips. Lots of watersports. The Virgin Islands are known for watersports. Endless scenes of beauty and plenty of more grown-up nightlife, too.

We just returned from St. Thomas. Did day trips to St. John and the BVI's. We are going to St. Lucia in November. Staying at Sandals Grande.

We are still partial to Mexico (we are mid-30's and early 50) The best water sports were at Maroma Beach in Playa del Carmen and Aqua World in Cancun. I read comments all the time about Cancun being "a party place". I guess we didn't stay in the right places because we never experienced it. Cozumel is also great for snorkeling. They have an Aqua World also.

We are partial to Mexico and Las Vegas, but we've been branching out to other Islands over the last couple of years.
