Need advice: how to beat the cruise ship crowds

Hi all - we are taking our first trip to the Bahamas this weekend and staying at the Compass Point. Can't wait!

As our Compass Point is a bit isolated, we are planning on exploring Nassau and Paradise island for a day or so (perhaps a day pass to Atlantis etc), however we would like to do this when crowds are at a minimum. Past experience on other islands has been that this is best accomplished when no ships are in port.

Does anyone know which days, the ships are in port or is it every day? Which days are things less crowded? Any advice or feedback on how to avoid crowds etc is appreciated!

T

Most islands I have been to have schedules you can get that tells you when and which ships will be in port. Some also have set days. Ask when you get there for the cruise ship schedule. You can bet your butt all the merchants know when their ships come in...lol

Post your question at http://www.cruise-addicts.com/forums/ Someone at that site will tell you where to find the information you seek.

When in the Caribbean, I plan my whole week around those schedules. But damned if I can find any online for Bahamas! One tiring thing to do is go to RCCl, Carnival , NCL and check their ships' schedules.Usually, Sat and Sun safe because that's the day they sail.

Here's a link to a schedule I had online last season. It should be still close.

http://www.bahamas-treasures.com/Cruiseships.html

Thanks all - I think we've figured out that the "bad" cruise days are Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Guess we'll be staying near the resort then.

Thanks for the help!

T

Don't avoid downtown completely, Wednesday and Thursdays there is not much of a crowd. There's lots to see and do, and most of the Great Restaurants and tours are located downtown. Tre Cafe Matisse or Green Shutters Pub for lunch, or have a drink from the veranda at Iguana's Cafe.
Enjoy your trip.
