Great choice (Anguilla)! Can't comment on Cap's restaurants-never been. I can suggest some moderately priced restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed:

Tasty's
E's Oven
English Rose (eat in or take out)
Uncle Ernies
J&J pizza
Pumphouse
Johnno's
takeout from Fat Cat

We try to eat moderately, and save up for one or two special meals. This year, we splurged for lobster lunch at the Palm Grove @ Junk's Hole and dinner at Straw Hat.

Make sure you make your way over to the Dune Preserve (on Rendezvous, near Cuisinart). Dune shine and Bankie's music...awesome.

Thanks, Claire, I was just looking up places to eat! We're getting a 7 night package that includes 4 meals, so the other three are up to us. I think we'll do two more moderately priced ones and splurge on an all out, best restaurant on the island. Your vote is Straw Hat?

Altamars is the best restaurant on Anguilla, followed by Trattoria Tramato, Straw Hat IMHO. Altamars is not far from Cap and since you get 1 day car rental in your romantic package you can easily drive there that evening. Trattoria is also easy to get to (the lobster ravioli is a must have!) I would suggest keeping the car for a few days since it is only 40.00 per day and cab fare is very expensive..Go to Bob Green's Anguilla News website and all the restaurant links are there, you can view menus, dining rooms, etc and decide for yourself. Acutally everthing you need to know is on that site, very helpful for first timers to Anguilla and is updated every 6 weeks:)

http://www.news.ai/

Thanks. We are booked for that package that includes one day's car rental. Should we keep the car for the whole time? I'm reading the taxis are a bit expensive?

I am sure you have already booked your honeymoon by now, but just for the record I would like to make a comment on Beaches Royal Plantation. I recently returned from a 10 day honeymoon at BRP and I could not have asked for a better honeymoon. And let me add that I am very selective when it comes to travel. I was totally against the idea of an all inclusive when my husband and I started researching our honeymoon. I certainly did not have any desire to go to a Sandals. Well, let me tell you that our honeymoon was perfect. This resort was wonderful - beautiful grounds, excellent service, wonderful food, great spa. And I am here to testify that this all inclusive did have 5-star food. Even the beach bar had high quality food and the drinks were good quality as well. I cannot give this resort a high enough rating. BRP is a beatiful property with excellent restaurants, but what made our honeymoon perfect was the way we were treated by the staff. From the concierge to the waiters to housekeeping, each person went above and beyond the call of duty to make us happy. I have told everyone I know to visit this resort and my husband and I are looking forward to returning.

You cannot go wrong with Cap Juluca, and the island of Anguilla. Excellent choice, nothing else can compare! Have a great trip, try Straw Hat, Trattoria,
even Mangos! Love lunch at Georges,
but do explore the island! See Shoal Bay, Meads Bay etc!

if you do the package deal, you might want to use one of the dinners for one of the on the beach buffets as they can be pricey compared to the a la carte menu. I don't know that Altamar has kept the quality and who thought to light the tables that attract bugs! Awfully pricey! Hibernia is a long drive (all things are relative) and well worth it especially at lunch for the view. Smokey's is another good spot and check out Cove Bay by walking from CapJ.

Is the Beaches Royal Plantation in Ocho Rios? Could someone zero me in on exactly where it is? I went to Jamaica only once about 7 years ago and stayed in Ocho and vowed never to return. However, this resort sounds very nice. To Dave and Happy Honeymooner, did you venture out into OR at all? If so, what is it like now?

Happy Honeymooner Jan 26th, 2003 06:41 PM

Beaches Royal Plantation is in Ocho Rios next door to Sandals Ochio Rios. It is the former Plantation Inn. We did not venture from the resort on our own, but we did take several tours recommended by our resort. The resort staff made the arrangements for us. We had great experiences on each tour (mountail biking, horseback riding and Dunn's River Falls) The advantage of this resort was that it was such a lush place to be with so many things to do on property leaving was not something we desired to do very often. Remember it is an all-inclusive - They have sailing, khayaks, water trykes, pool, hot tub, tennis, snorkeling, scuba, a small gym, an excellent spa and exchange priveleges with other Sandals for even more activities. Not to mention beach butler service so you can just do nothing at all (and isn't that what vacation is for). Again, I highly recommend this resort.
