NEED A VACATION BADLY!!
My boyfriend (we have been together for 17 years) and I have had a really tough year and a half, between my brother dieing in April and then my mother last week, we need to get away for a while.
We would like to go sometime next month, some place that we can get to from Detroit with out a lot of transfers (1's) ok,we like AL because then we don't have to decide where were going to eat,( I'm kinda picky and he's not), nice beach, & kinda seculded, we just want to lay on the beach and bake our brains out. We have been to T&C (we loved it) Punta Cuna (ok) Does anyone have any suggestions? We just really need to get away. Thanks, lajk |
It would help if you gave us a price range or a level of the type of resort you are interested in.
I'm sorry for your losses. |
Thank-you schmerl.
I would say mid range, nothing over the top. I really just want something clean and nice and of course not to crowed and AL. Thanks, lajk44 |
Sorry for your losses. I lost my Mother last Nov.
If you want AI and a reasonable price, I would check into Mexico, cancun, or even the maya riviera resorts. You can try applevacations.com and see what they have to offer. Right now is high season. |
Check Spirit Air and see where they fly. They have great deals from Detroit.

Thanks for your help, I will look into both of the ideas.

Although they are not completely all-inclusive, I would look at these two properties (managed or owned by the same group):
www.petitlafitte.com www.shangrilacaribe.com For about $275 a night (for the couple, not per person) you can have an ocean view room, breakfast, dinner and taxes included. We stayed at the Posada Capitan LaFitte a few years ago (which has been replaced with the Petit Lafitte) and had one of the most relaxing trips we ever took. The property was very clean and well maintained, the food was good (not up to the gourmet reviewers standards, I am sure, but fine for what we wanted), the staff was helpful, etc. Look at the photos. You would fly into Cancun for either place. We made arrangements along with our hotel reservation for the transportation to and from the airport. They serve lunch as well- indoors or outdoors by the pool- but you can also eat elsewhere if you go exploring into Playa del Carmen or even take the ferry from Playa over to Cozumel. We took a fun day trip - arranged at the hotel- to Tulum and the Xel-Ha then a side trip on our own one day over to Cozumel where we rented a little VW beetle convertible and explored the island-nice big park with good snorkeling right off the beach. I would recommend the area either to one who wants to just veg on the beach or find things to do. I am sorry for your loss. I hope you will get some peaceful rest on a beautiful beach somewhere soon. |
I agree the Riviera Maya would be fantastic. Shangri La is a great choice. If you want true AI the Royal Playa del Carmen is very nice. There are a few other AI resorts close to playa, but I don't know much about them. Isla Mujeres is a small Island off Cancun that is a 20 minute ferry ride. They just opened a new Palace resort there that is supposed to be very nice as well as Avalon is there as an AI option.
