need a hotel in puerto rico

Leaving the husbands at home and going to Puerto Rico for a long weekend with the girlfriends. We were originally booked at the Ritz, San Juan, but are now thinking that it's more of a business hotel than a "resort". Any suggestions? We thought of the El conquistador, but I think it is too far from San Juan - We want to be able to go out at night.

El Conquistador is about 30 miles from the airport. Unless you have a rental car most activity would be confined to the hotel. I wouldn't call the Ritz a business hotel but it definately has a laid back atmosphere. A hotel with the most active lobby and casino and a very popular dance club is the WYndham El San Juan. THe hotel is in Isla Verde a 10 minute walk from the Ritz. You should check it out - prices are comparable

If you are looking for R&R then the Hyatt Cerromar is great--has an "action" pool and beautiful beach. For San Juan, we like the Marriott Hotel because it is close to lot of excellent restaurants, close to old San Juan (shopping-sightseeing) and definitely has an active nightlife.

Second the El San Juan! Beautiful lobby, lots of restaurants and bars and a great casino
For old world, try the El Convento in Old San Juan, really quaint.
If wanting to save money, The Embassy Suites is in Isla Verde, also Hampton Inn, both not too far from the action!
Ronnie

The Cerromar is family oriented and there is no night action and unless you have a rental car there is no place nearby you can walk to. The Embassy Suites swings, especially on weekends, but there is a downside - no beach. It is at least a 10 minute walk to the beach.

the Westin Rio Mar.
Its a resort about 40 minutes east of San Juan but not as far as El Conquistador.
It seems you are looking for beachfront, nightlife and world-class resort. If you are, the El San Juan Hotel is gorgeous and they have a hopping nightlife right on the hotel. Salsa on Friday and Saturday nights are great...Sunday's are dead and not much going on.
