Nassau -- Why do people go?

I am interested in going to Nassau and have been reading a lot on the internet. It seems very popular but the overall impressions are negative: i.e. locals unfriendly, service bad; expensive; unsafe; unscrupulous taxi drivers; bad beaches; persistent vendors? It must have something going for it. What's the verdict, is it worth it or not?

Donna, I dont' know where you have been reading, but Nassau is a very nice vacation destination. I have been going there for 15 years and have never had a problem, other than not wanting to come home!! (lol)

There is alot to see and do on the island and several nice resorts and alot of good restaurants.

Nassau is like any city in the US, and service is what you make of it, friendly attitude is usually reflected by the server, and unfriendly attitudes, well you get the idea.

You can find places in the Bahamas where you can walk for miles on deserted beaches, or have a day to yourself on a deserted island.

You can also shop till you drop downtown Nassau and get some good prices on jewelry, china, crystal, gifts and liquors.

The Bahamas is made up of over 700 islands and cays, and only a few of them are inhabited so if you are looking for fun and sun or a relaxing time you can find it in the Bahamas.

If you need any more info, please let me know.

tweedy

Hi, I will let you know I am leaving for Sandals Royal Bahamian on Sunday. Was in Negril Jamaica at the sandals last yr so I will compare the two. The Jamaican people are wonderful and very friendly, I have also heard the Bahamian people are not as nice and friendly. I guess I will have to see for myself.

I've been to Nassau and found the locals friendly and helpful. I will admit it can be expensive particularly since I Canadian and our dollar is not the best compared to the US. I found the vendors less persistent to those in Mexico, once we said no there was no more hard sales pitch. They do like to ask where your from, etc. I agree with tweedy!! Good Luck and enjoy.

Hello, Yes Im Back from the Bahamas and yes, the Bahamian people are more rude then the Jamaican people, and yes they drive terrible but so do the Jamaican people. Service was slow but the beaches were beautiful and the water blue as blue can be. The vendors are bothersome and get on your nerves but I found that even in Jamaica. Nassau itself has alot of things to see and do yes its worth the trip. I did not find that thing were expensive some things were quite cheap you just had to look.
We stayed at Sandals but visited Atlantis what a resort!!! It is the most fascinating and beautiful resort I have ever seen. A must to see!!!!!!! We did alot of excursions while in Nassau and had a wonderful time just returned Sunday 13, 2000.
