Nassau - Sandyport Beaches & resort

Would you please give an opinion about Sandyport Beaches & Resort in Nassau and/or recommend properties for 3 nights around New Year's eve with a small family. Completely aware of how crowded it will be and how late we are in asking for your input. Perfectly willing to scrounge for a cancellation. Hoping for under $500/night.... Also, any special restaurants for foodie types. Know about Arawak Cay. As always, thank you to all who take the time to respond.

There are 500+ reviews of this resort posted on TripAdvisor - must give it pretty high ratings. I suspect if you read those reviews you'l know as much as anyone can about the resort.

I did a quick check and it looks like they might still have some "availability" for the days surrounding New Years.

Thanks for our response, Roams Around. Yes, TripAdvisor is among the first places I look, as well as Expedia, Orbitz, Travelocity, Kayak, Oyster, etc. However, asking is by far the way I have found most helpful. There often are off the beaten path places that people in the know might recommend. Appreciate you taking the time to investigate and respond.

Hi, blmona. Yes. We are staying at SCYC for 5 days (my limit). My wife doesn't can't handle the idea of hiring a small private plane to fly to another island. So, it looks like return to Nassau, as you originally suggested. A long white beach in Nassau looks like Cable Beach, ergo Sandyport. When I looked at Melia previously, you didn't seem like a fan. So, went with Sandyport, but for $500/night, would like to get the best bang for our buck.... Thought of possibly looking at Graycliff and paying more but doesn't seem lie best match for 14 year old. What do you think? Thanks

PS If I can get her to change her mind about adding small plane trips to our vacation plans in the next few days I have a possibility of a stay at Cape Santa Maria Beach Resort (which would be my preference)....

Oh I hope you can change her mind. I cant imagine it would be a long trip from Staniel Cay to Long island. I took a quick peak the Sandy port beach and in no way is it comparable to the Cape (that's one of the top beaches we have ever been to and we have been to many...). Although you will have your fill of great beaches around Staniel.
