Nassau Bahamas

Hi Forum Folks,

We have airfare booked to Nassau between Christmas and New Years. Any lodging, restaurant, or must see excursion recommendations for our family of five (ages 22,25,27)? I hope it's not too touristy; just looking for some fun in the sun, nice beaches, hiking and nature, and maybe some golf for the guys.

Thanks Much,

Marty Johnson

So you haven't book a resort/hotel? You are going during one of the busiest times of the year. I would book a hotel as soon as possible.
Nassau IS a touristy place. You might want to look at one of the out islands in the Bahamas if you don't want a very touristy place.

New Providence is probably the most touristy island in the Bahamas, but you can also get away from the crowds. If you're looking for an upscale resort experience, the new Baha Mar resort is beautiful and mostly functional (more hotels will be online by Christmas). The Grand Hyatt there is the biggest hotel.

If you're looking to get away from the tourist crowds, there are some smaller resorts away from Nassau, but for a true get-away-from-it-all experience, the Out Islands are best. But as @schmerl says, book immediately if you want something good. Since you're a group of 5 adults, I'd actually recommend an apartment or villa rental. It's going to give you your best value, but it will be expensive and will likely have minimum-stay requirements over the holidays (as will all the hotels).
