MyMoosie's Grenada Oct'08 Trip Report

Well I *finally* got it done, on this cold, dreary, drizzly day. Better late than never, right? :-D Now I'm only 3 trips behind until my next trip. Heaven help me!

I would copy it here, but it is interspersed with photos, which would take me longer to copy and paste it. At that rate it might take another month to get it pasted. :-P

Ok, here goes... www.mymoosie.net

I'm off to read it now!

(and it's about darn time, woman!)

I was just thinking about you the other day... wondering if you had taken any trips. I see you have and that you're just a TRUE TRIP REPORT SLACKER!! :-D
Thoroughly enjoyed this one as well. I loved that you did a little getaway within the getaway!

Great report! Love your photos -- they so capture Grenada. All saturated color and richness. Wish it weren't such a hard trip to get there.

Your pictures get better and better with each trip! 8-)
You should enter "Morne Rouge Beach" into a contest--it's lovely---not that I want the competition! ;-)

Thanks for the compliments! :-)

And yep, Me = TR slacker! LOL.

What a great report!!! It's a keeper for my next trip. You are so detailed..I just love it! Loved the snorkeling pics, island pics, restaurant pics...all the pics!!!

I meant to ask you... Was it windy at all on LaLuna's beach? I remember reading about it being an issue.. maybe Emily's report?

mymoosie Mar 17th, 2009 07:48 PM

caribtraveler - No, it was not windy at LaLuna when we went. Maybe it was Maca Bana you were thinking of? The water seems to always be too wavy on their beach, in front of the Aquarium restaurant.

I forgot to chime back in to tell you how much I enjoyed reading and seeing your photos. Another great job! When is your return trip?

Nadine, you have a fantastic memory. When we were at LaLuna the wind was so harsh we couldn't sit and read on the beach. Maybe our experience was an anomaly.

P.S. Good on you for the NEWLO section. When i first read about it in An Embarrassment of Mangoes I wanted to learn more.

But honey, I don't want to know what kind of handbags *you* are buying if a sponsorship is only half the cost of one! :D

mymoosie Mar 19th, 2009 06:11 PM

Hi Emily - I'll be back end of May/beginning of June to attend a wedding. Did I see that you are heading back this year?

About the handbag... :-D

ejcrowe Mar 19th, 2009 06:18 PM

A wedding? Whose wedding? lucky you to be able to get to Grenada so frequently!

But yes, I'll be back there finally in June, but only for a week. I've promised my DH a week of nothing but beaching and reading, and that's not something I'm willing to do in Grenada when there's so much to explore there, so I'm taking him to Anguilla after our time on Grenada. Can't get much different than those two islands!

Enjoyed your report. One question, if I may ask? Approx. how much did it run for the entire vacation? (not counting the La Luna escape or any shopping) I suspect anything like this is probably above my budget, but maybe we could save up for a few years.

mymoosie Mar 27th, 2009 06:29 PM

Hmmm... I don't normally tally up the "damage" at the end of the trip. I prefer to be blissfully ignorant of how much I've spent. LOL. :D

The big expense is the airfare. It runs about $650-$800 per ticket including taxes.

Our apartment at LAE Cottages is only $132/night during low season including taxes & service charges. We got a 20% discount because we are repeat customers and it was the low season. It is $35/wk for internet. So for 10 nights, we spent $1,106 on accommodations. We do leave extra gratuity on top of the 10% that is already tacked on to the bill, just because that's how we are.

Food we can manage with $100/day for 2 people if you go with the casual places. Sometimes we spend more, sometimes less, but it evens out.

Car rental was $300/wk inclusive of taxes but without the extra CDW insurance. It is also just as easy to catch the local bus for around $1 and it's perfectly safe and fun to ride them.

The private tour with Caribbean Horizons was $25/hr. We spent 6 hours on the "spicy" tour, but that included us stopping for lunch. There are non-private tours available, which would cost significantly less.

The airfare tends to be the big expense. One great thing about Grenada is that there are a wide variety of choices in all price points for accommodations and restaurants. We found it to be the most reasonably priced island to visit.

Great photos and report! Grenada looks like a very intesresting place. May have to try it one of these days...

Thanks for the info. I am going to start saving, if that is possible these days.
